Isn't the Cobalt iPod compatible? I have non-Apple products that allow me to use my iPod as an alarm and just to play music. I doubt that it would be very difficult to design an iPod-reading USB port. Then again, I wouldn't know how to do it.

sorry let me make myself clear. the Device (stock stereo) just needs the codec to play the AAC format. The ipod will play through the USB on my home stereo. Also the Sony Playstation 3 will play it thorough the USB ports on it also. . .but yea.

Maybe something has changed since the last time I investigated it, but the iPod stores the music with encrypted filenames and tags, and maybe the music is encrypted too. Perhaps Apple has licensed out the codec for it? If the Cobalt does it through a USB port (not an iPod connector) then we can certainly expect the Camaro to do it too!

GM would have to get permission/pay apple for it. the files are encrypted but if you're on a windows machine (don't know about the most recent) you can copy your music into windows media player and it will tell you what the music file is and play it. . .if it's DRM free. or you decrypt it.

I installed a Premier head unit in my Impreza with a Pioneer iPod connector in the dash. That head unit can read my playlists and track names, so I'm sure it is possible. If that doesn't work in the Camaro, there are alternatives that allow for it to keep that OEM look. Just install the JL Cleansweep unit for high-quality audio and an appropriate iPod adaptor.

Damn near every portable electronic device I own (cell phone, Zune, Crackberry, digital camera, GPS) can be charged via the USB cable when it's plugged into my PC. I'd love to have the ability to have just USB cables in my car to charge whatever needs charging instead of having multiple 12v plug-in car chargers. They take up less space when stored away and some devices can use the same cable because the plug-in connectors are the same.
