I love how people talk about going into a recession. When it's over, they talk about coming out of a recession. In between, there is never an acceptance that they were actually in a recession.

The way I see it, it doesn't matter if the economy at large is in a recession. If your financial position is good and your job is secure (and being in Iraq I assume you're in the armed forces and as such your job is quite secure) then go for it. You have a 50% downpayment and you're worried because someone is telling you there is a recession? Psh, people are being ruled by fear. If you ignore the fear and think about it rationally, you'll make the right decision. Its fine that you're concerned about fuel prices, but read too much into someone scaring you with recession talk.

Civilians are worried about the recession because if people aren't out there buying products....companies have to cut jobs. You're good to go man. (I wouldn't put that much of a down payment though. Put down $5k and invest the rest. You basically will be sinking your money into something that is GAURENTEED to depreciate.) However I can understand if that is the only way you can afford it. But if that's the case...you really shouldn't buy the car. |

Just to be clear, I'm not saying ignore everything and get it regardless. Certainly take into account what you can afford, how much it will cost to buy, how much it will cost to run, etc. If it works out, great. If it doesn't, don't go bankrupt trying. Its a nice car, but not worth that. But don't just go by what someone else is telling you about how things are. I guess I'm just saying trust your own judgment and take the advice of others, but don't lean on it entirely. I don't think anyone misunderstood, but I didn't want to take the chance.

Guess I don't need to respond here...everyone else took care of the Obama/Mcain and drilling comment. good job, guys.
And I'm sorry you won't be getting the new Camaro. Take you time with it and watch those gas prices. If you work close to home, will it hurt you all that much? |

Also, what if he is president? He still won't be able to do anything about offshore drilling, just as bush is not, because we will still have democrats controlling both the house and senate. And don't even get me started on the gas tax holiday... I'm sorry I got into this and started probably more argument in a thread about him jumping off camaro. I just couldn't stand by without at least offering my opinion on the issue. |

^And china will be helping Cuba drill for offshore oil 50 miles south of Florida. Hey, if we aren't going to get it, why not let the Chinese take all our oil through Cuba, right?!?!
This is so $(#*%* up. Ready to drill....ready to begin building more refineries. Ready for more energy sources. Ready to be more energy dependent. |

We need to drill and we need to work on alternatives, but electricity is not the way to go for the sole fact...where does the power come from, thats right folks coal, oil, and nuclear energy. Wait but some of you say what about wind and solar energy? Well great ideas but not very efficent, also you know what most of there products are made from? Oil. Folks this world is about to change drastically and most people dont know it because the news wont report it, but the poles are about to switch whith in a few years and the climate WILL CHANGE! We cant stop it, we didnt cause it and for all those who think it are fault that the polar brears are dieing, well in a way it is but its not due to our use of oil. Here is a little lesson in the Earth history, along time ago long before man stepped on this earth CO2 levels where at huge amounts and rising and the world was getting hot. As the poles melted the earth cooled and the increase of H2O and O2 dropped the level of CO2, mostly because the increase of H2O allowed for huge amounts of alge which turned the CO2 into O2. The alge would then die with all this carbon in them and creating huge deposits. As time went on this carbon turned in to Oil. It happend before and it will happen again. Dont belive Al Gore.

As for the oil problem, you can bet that oil will come back in a long time as quoted above. The problem I have with putting so much faith in this process is that we can drain Earth of its oil if we keep using it. There is no reason why we shouldn't use alternative innovations that reduce oil consumption and dependence. If we suck the Earth dry of oil without making another form of energy production the primary means of production, then we will face civilization-threatening catastrophe. We're talking about riots, revolutions, famine, urban decay, the collapse of the nation-state system, war, and genocide. It will be a bad era after the end of oil. We should make oil a secondary resource by investing in alternatives. Right now, ethanol research has proven that corn stalk, a wasted resource since it is not currently used for anything, can make ethanol. If every one of us used E85, our dependence on oil would be scarce in comparison to today's standards. It is possible with the implementation of ethanol from sources like corn, soy, sugar, and waste products. Research is moving very quickly in these categories, and we should be encouraging this research by implementing ethanol as a way to stay away from OPEC resources.
