i have personally seen a few 08 m5's at the drag strip. one with a standard trans and a auto trans. there times are ok. stock it runs around a 13sec 1/4 mile. ive seen stock camaros run faster. with the mods you should be able to beat it, if you get the launch and shifting good, but the m5 will hang with you the whole way. this is all just based off what ive seen at the drag strip.

Most are saying watch out for the EVO assuming he will be modded (few people keep their Evo's stock). Stock - Evo's aren't much to worry about. But Evo's in general are pretty easy to mod to run significantly faster than stock. |

I've owned 2 350z's, and my ex girlfriend had an Evo IX MR. Stock for stock, the Evo and 350z are pretty even. The Evo has a big turbo, and the power kicks in hard when it spools up. The crazy thing about the Evo is that it's easy and cheap to make BIG power. She had a meth kit, boost controller, and a full exhaust.... before she got her final tune it was putting down 480 at the wheels! Watch out.. that could be a wild card.
The M5 is a beast stock... if you want to run with him, plan on a few mods. Really... any one of those cars can make good power... it just depends on how much they want to spend. Like the others said...keep it at the track. I know we all drive 'spiritedly' on the road... but organizing a street race can get people hurt, or land you in jail.

Mike SS I own a 2ss 6 speed and a 2008 BMW M5.
I will tell you they are totally different cars in terms of gearing and powertrains. SS has much more torque but the M5 once it hits 6k-9k in the RPM will destroy the Camaro. My M5 has launch control and is mildly ECU remapped. I ran my car 1 time at Englishtown last year and I was around 12:40 in the 1/4 with stock tires. I am not a drag strip guy so I am sure a pro could do much better. M5 is a beast in the upper RPM and MPH range not many cars can keep up because it can hit 200mph easily. I think its great that I get to change cars between the two during the day its a drastic change I love both of them equally. |

Yeah, all drivers being equal the M5 will have a solid advantage. I'd only be worried about the evo if it has been modded. The rest of the cars will need to be heavily modded to hang in the mix.

Watch out for the evo... don't worry about the M5. That car will destroy you all day long.

I'm going to have to disagree with everyone here who says the M5 will own the SS all day long.
http://www.insideline.com/cadillac/c...-benz-c63.html According to this article, the M5 ran a 12.8 quarter mile. 'nhra stocker' pulled a 12.63 1/4 adjusted at 12.43 for DA... on the contrary, this shows the SS running over the M5. |

Good link... still shows very comparable times with the private runs posted in this forum.
On another note, if you compare R&T's 'article' time for the SS at 12.9 with the 'article' time of the M5 at 12.8, also very comparable times. Also, the test run they made was a 2008 M5... wonder how many miles it had, or how broken in it was already. R&T's was almost brand new. Almost guaranteed to gain 'some' ground when that Camaro breaks in... |
