I have a Beltronics STi Driver; it's sheilded against radar detector-detectors. I use it in VA all the time. Unless they physically see it you should be okay.

The yearly subscription is only $20 (or 3 years is $30) and they come out with monthly to bi-monthly updates.

You can do the same thing if you have a garmin or tom tom. Several sites offer red light/speed trap POIs. I use the one from GPS POI. $25 per year for their database which is the same one used by whistler's GPS RD as well as Nav n go and navigon. They update their data regularly, unlike free POI databases. As of 18 Dec, their last update was only 5 days ago. It works well and alerted me to 5 red light cameras that are on 301 between Waldorf and Baltimore, MD; none of which I ever knew were there.

I am considering buying the excort 9500ix, I am sure that it will save my rear in some cases, but in the chance that I am pulled over, I think the police will be more prone to give you a ticket if he sees that you have one. Still debating.
