I have this same exact problem. I've only had the car for 3 weeks but it has been quite cold (high 20's and 30's) in the morning. My taps/ticks usually last about 10-15 seconds and go away. I am going to wait and see if the warm weather causes this to stop before I worry about it. The car is going in tomorrow morning for the heatere core "gurgling" issue so I'll have them check this out as well.

Depending on where the "tapping" is coming from it is normal, cold start lifters will tap for a few seconds. The fuel injection also makes a tapping or clicking sound but this is an all the time sound. But, a thunking sound when backing up is not normal in my opinion.

well folks, I have a very similar issue i have been trying to resolve all week. I took delivery of my 2ss a6 a week ago and i'm experiencing some issues ... one very similar to this.

However, my tapping, clunking sound happens about 1-2 seconds after everytime I come to a stop ... it comes from the rear and under the shifter (well auto shift knob that is lol).

I stop and then a second later i feel and hear this cluttering of something ...

Im getting the fuel pump replaced in my Camaro now...i had that clicking/thumping noise from the trunk/fuel tank area too...

Someone told me on my post that it wasn't the fule pump though and it was most likely a soleniod? (i'm sure i spelled that wrong, sorry)

I get the same thumping noise in the trunk area about 3 min after start. Only happens once in a while, usually on colder days. Anyone find out yet what it actually
is and any service necessary?

The thumping is normal. It's fuel system related. My 2000 Grand Am has done it for 10 years. My 2005 Impala police car does it as well.

your hearing the various emission devices in the rear of the car perform there self test,if you want to be sure take it in and have the tech hook the scanner to it and perform a manuel test of the vent solenoid while your there to verify its the noise your hearing,i do this all the time for customers,its nice to tell a customer there not crazy and that what there hearing is normal,abs solenoids is another noise maker also,just my two cents

mine does a big thump when banking out of garage for first time i think its brake related

I remember the 1st morning that happened. I thought it was the neighbor screwing with me as it does sound like someone tapping on the back of the car. So I here I am looking around the car for him..

Then thinking it was his kid and hes hiding somewhere. It was morning two before I figured it out
