if i remember correctly it's something about the officer not being present at the time of the incident.
In Florida they use planes and choppers ..... They patrol I-95 and the Turnpike very heavily, because they are the main roads for running contraband ....

I never saw the logic in this. It seems to me that the LESS time you spend in the oncoming lane while making a pass, the LESS chance there is for something to go wrong (oncoming car, etc). I say if you come up on someone going 50 in a 55 you should pass them in 5 seconds by going 75 and then slow back down to the legal speed limit. That's MUCH safer than trying to pass them at 55 and taking 20 seconds.

I believe the basic principle to this is that if you can't pass the person at the speed limit, there is no reason to pass them; if that person is going at the speed limit, you definitely can't pass without going above speed limit.

New law went into effect 1/1 in GA that adds an additional $200 to any speeding tkt. over 85 MPH on a multi-lane hwy or over 75 MPH on a two lane. This is on top of whatever the county/city/state sets as a fine. It’s possible, in some counties in GA, to receive a speeding tkt. with a fine over $1K plus the extra $200. And yes, they use planes, helicopters, timed measure road marks, laser, radar, and likely sputnik to keep GA drivers in check and in our checkbook. I’m thinking that this single law may solve the state budget crunch -- lucky if you get GA drivers to keep it under 85 in a school zone.

I'm relying heavily on my cruise control to keep me at 35, 40, 45 and every other speed limit in town and on the hiway. I don't have any tickets and prefer to keep it that way.

The only concern I have is the whole muscle car profiling going on. I've got a Red Jewel SS/RS and on a sunny day she stands out from the pack. If a Honda Fit is going 90 past me, the cop is going to pull me over, it's been disgussed already and I've contacted OnStar and they have no way of monitoring our speed.

What to do???

I'd had my share of tickets, but it turns out people at my GF's work had a bed on how many tickets I would get when I went home. The most someone bet was 4 . I got 0

/random

On topic: I was cruising 80-85 (without cruise control as this was during break in) on I-10 between Junction and Kerrville where the limit is actually 80. I hit a little bump in the road didn't think anything of it, look down and I guess my foot went down VERY slightly and was running 95 and didn't feel any difference!

That stinks. I got my first and only speeding ticket by a plane and speed traps on hwy 520, which they were pulling everybody over anyway. Speed limit was 55 i was going 70 like everyone else. Its a RURAL FREAKIN HIGHWAY! Anyway after paying a lawyer for nothing and traffic school, next time i rode on that road, the speed limit was magically 65? I would never gotten a ticket had the speed limit been set right to begin with. UGH! /rant.
Again, sorry for your new years luck

Yep. You're dreaming if you think speeding tickets are about anything more than tax collection. 75 or 80 on a highway isn't the problem. The guy going 45 in the left lane, or the moron who doesn't signal, rides someone's bumper at speed, fail to yield or merge properly, etc. are the ones who actually cause the carnage. Speeding is just the easiest mark to catch, and tax.

The gas burn rate of 55 mph argument is antiquated for 70's vehicles. My old z3 got the best gas mileage @ 80 mph. Haven't put enough miles on the camaro to find the sweet spot on mileage yet.
