You might also looking into a used lotus for tracks that have a lot of twisties. Not a V8, but they grip like they're on rails.

So for a while, I happen to have the possibility of looking into becoming a professional race car driver. I know it sounds corny and all that, but since I have the possibility, I'll take it. Unfortunately, I will have to slowly start building a name for myself, and I just don't see the ss camaro winning that many races. I mean if the z28 would come out, then that's a different story. But from my point of view, a stock 2011 ss will need a lot of work before it's ready to start smokin everything else at the track.
Ok as someone who tried (and failed) at becoming a pro, I'd be interested to know what your possibility is? If you're somehow serious, be prepared for a long expensive road with a lot of nos, and being the "best" isn't always what you need to get ahead. Pro Racing is all about the almighty dollar...

My suggestion for a serious track car is a Lotus Elise or Exige. You can get a used one at around your price point, and they have a great power to weight ratio, mods are available, every kind of racing part is available. The thing is a Track STAR. Forget anything else, it will cost you too much to track prep when the Exige and Elise are ready to rock from the beginning.

If you plan on daily driving your "race car" forget it, if you want to be the fastest and try to go pro, your car won't be able to be driven on the street, nor would you want to.

Actually that's the thing, I happen to be lucky enough to afford a daily driver which is a going to be a m3, and a winter car/tower which is a trailblazer. So the track car(s) will be only used at the track, I'm not going to drive it(them) on the street or anything like that.

I also agree with you about the lotus. The only thing is that I tried sitting in one and it was very uncomfortable, and I'm only 5'9". Other than that, I agree that the car should already be built for the track when I'm going to buy it. There is no way that I will build one a track car, way to much time, financial resources and energy wasted. The only thing is that I'm not sure if a lotus will be good enough on the drag strip.

My possibility is that after college I will be able to have a good amount of free time. I also happen to have a good amount of the financial resources to put up front for this very tough road.

the C5 Z06 could be a circuit racer as well. your also missing the three main cars that offer the best bang for the buck. 370z, Mustang GT, Camaro SS. they are all quick at the drag And the circuit.

and i might be biased (i race one) the Cayman S is perfect for both also. and im seeing some slightly used ones for around 30k

I'm just not a fan of the 370z and mustang gt. And as I have stated before, the camaro would require too much energy, money and time before it would be ready for the track. I prefer the list that I wrote down in my previous post

What I'm looking for -

Under 40 grand
Stock
At least, a V8
Rather easily modable

I'd look for a used car.... maybe a previous generation Z06

Edit: just read the thread and saw that had come up. +1 vote on the C5.

Something like this would make an excellent track car and is already ready to rock:

Your welcome. Its beautiful.

The Z06 might be (slightly) faster around a track, but this will be SOOOOOOOOO much more fun.

a used Z06 would might be best (depending on your definition of best of course), and C6 Z06's can be found for under 40k
