L99 has a smaller camshaft also.

And no, the auto doesn't have less horses because it loses more through the drivetrain. It does but that is regarding wheel horsepower. LS3 has 426 hp at the crank and the L99 has 400 at the crank. This loss of power is most likely because of the smaller cam.

Also the L99 has a lower compression ratio, 10.4:1 vs. the LS3 at 10.7:1.

A 400hp automatic should make around 320-330 rwhp.

The LS3s (426 hp) would only make around 340 -350 rwhp if it had an automatic transmission.

Remember the L99s are automatics vs the LS3 being a manual.

The ls3 is faster.
But it's not like it's an OMGWTF difference. The L99 maybe a tenth or so slower, and the L99 is only slower in this aspect when you give it great drivers. When the average driver is behind the wheel, you won't see any difference between the two and I might give the edge to the L99 being faster with average drivers considering it's an automatic.

I agree

come on Folks they are so close in numbers its not even funny.

Todays automatics are not like the slush box A4's we had a few years back.

Unless you hit every gear everytime perfect in a Manual You wont outshift an automatic. How many can say I can hit every gear everytime perfect ? Very few especially in this New Camaro its different than most manuals we are used to in the past.

automatics are what they are called AUTOMATIC no guessing and no miss shifts.

An automatic SS (L99) beats them both in a drag race, right?
All other things being equal. Yes. But not by much.

Like the poster said below. Drivetrain has nothing to do with it.

13.2 stock, 12.8 w/ cai/cat-back and diablo tuner. Figure the challenger and even charger have a small weight advantage....my #'s are average gains, I've seen better, seen worse, probably mostly DA related or driver experience (launch technique moreso than driving obviously in a auto). Back when I had the white RT magnum, I couldn't beat 14.0....want to beat that with the wifes v6

Right right, but someone had made a comment about the auto being atop the leader boards, which are dominated by the ls3. Average driver like me behind the wheel, an auto would do much better.

I also remember someone saying that would be the case until proven wrong
