Dealing with a power steering issue here. By chance, was the red "BRAKE" light on when you were dealing with this issue??
"Service Power Steering" comes up on dash when starting up and red "BRAKE" light is on. Brakes work fine, fluid in reservoir is good. The power steering is still working, but only at half effort. I've checked all my plugs, grounds, and the 125a fuse, all is good there. My car is due for inspection, so I might just have the stealership look at it...
