Hey Guys, don't take it so lightly when someone complains of back pain. It's serious and when it's so bad that he's thinking that he might have to SELL his Camaro, then you know it's bad. Yes, wallets in the back pockets can do it, but also getting in and out of this car can do it too.
Chris, try what some of the other guys above are saying: remove the wallet adjust the seat try a custom seat Now you also need to work on how you enter and exit. Instead of slipping in sideways, open the door all the way and sit down into the chair backwards, like you would a normal chair. Then, turn into the seat. Likewise for exiting. Open the door all the way, turn and put both feet out onto the ground and pull/step up and out of the seat, do not twist and turn to get out or get in. I have terrible, chronic leg and back and leg pain from multiple injuries to my spine so I know what you are going through plus some. There are ways to work around it, and use those heated seats to help deal with the muscle spasms in your back. Don't give up too quick, give it another 1k miles. It took me about 1500 miles to adjust to the seats and getting in and out. edit: I really do encourage you to see a massage therapist. I have been seeing one for several years and depending upon what I am doing I increase my visits. About two months after driving my Camaro my back was aching because of the new movements of gettin in and out, the different driving position of the seats, pedal location and even the steering wheel. It has taken almost 6 months and 4500 miles and quite a few trips to my massage therapist, but my body has acclimated to my Camaro. I encourage you to try Massage Therapy and also to start doing some simple stretching, get a basic pilates/yoga cd, it will really help. If you want to keep driving your Camaro, then you ought to be willing to do whatever it takes. Good luck and I hope you find something that will work for you.

That is a sad ordeal. Find an aftermarket seat, maybe check out http://www.corbeau.com/ and you could make some money back selling your seats. Someone might want to retrofit them into their 4th gen.

Commits weekly crime

Basically, it causes your pelvis to tilt, which puts a curve in your spine when you sit down...your spine should be straight. Over time, this is bad for your back.
You know when you were growing up and your parents told you to sit straight? They weren't kidding

First, if you haven’t you need to see a doctor, this is normal.
Second remove your wallet or anything from your pockets, front and back. Third, replace the seats. |

Yep, like others have said, get rid of the wallet and as much stuff out of your pockets as you can. Make sure your pants aren't too tight too! And finally, use a lumbar roll for your lower back. As dumb as this sounds, THE BEST ONE is one of those blue shop towel rolls of paper towels. They work better than ANY others being sold in the health stores, and are as cheap as can be! And when it wears out, just rotate it out for the next roll. (And you still have a roll of paper towels to use as was intended!)

I have found that if you do any long distance driving a lumbar support realy helps. I use one in the Camaro and the mini-van and works. Not sure where you buy them, I got mine through the chiropractor, its just a piece of foam about 4" in dia and about 10" long. You place it between the seat and you back about where your belt goes. Try that before you redo you seats or sell the car. The removal of the wallet sure helps if you are going to do any long drive. I used to get pains in my back and going down my leg, I then took out my wallet when I drive and I couldn't believe the difference.

I guess you can see from these other posts that the back problem, especially from something as simple as a wallet, is somewhat common. I have experienced this in other vehicles, and I have to vouch for the original poster, because I am not as comfortable in these seats as I am in my '95 Camaro.
Other than the wallet, I think what other people are saying is true. See a chiropractor, MD, physical therapist, automotive interior specialist. Consider aftermarket seats that one of them might recommend. Just don't get rid of your baby!

You guys may have just saved me a trip to the doctors.
I've been getting back pain that goes down into my leg. Never heard of the wallet thing. My wallet isn't exactly huge either, but I do have a flat ass. Might be a give and take kind of thing? ![]() Thanks again though. I've blown my back out once before, and I just assumed it was a reoccurance of that. The pain feels exactly the same. At any rate, I hope everything works out for the OP. Being forced to sell your Camaro for anything sucks.

I always remove my wallet on long trips (> 1 hr). Its never a problem on shorter trips, but after a while I start having back pains and numbness in my right leg (wallet side).

Wow, I would have never thought of that. Ever since losing my wallet when I was kid trying to keep it in the back pocket, I've never carried my wallet there.
