The key fbodfather was holding was a switchblade key, and he was commenting that's what it will be.

clearly those of you who are complaining about the spare key issue did not read my post.
you CAN get a spare that is just like a normal key.
and it DOES fit in your wallet.

I think the switchblade key will be a problem for me. I'm an awful fiddler. I'll wear that thing out the first time I'm bored for a half hour.

I have a VW as well. 226,000 miles later, I fiddle with it constantly (OCD?) I get in and out of the car 20-25 times a day. Even if I am just standing there talking to people, I am constantly opening it just enough to where it starts to swing out then I close it. Works like the day I bought it. The battery is a pain to get to BUT, if it is made like the VW, you have nothing to worry about.

yea. my dad had one on his volvo. and when i got my permit that was the car i used. so basically i fiddled with it every chance i got. and did the same thing as shifty with the opening and closing. still works like a charm. but we just got rid of the car. it was a lease and the front bumper would pop off every time we hit a bump in the road. it was waaaaay to low to the ground.

I think it depends on the key fob itself. I'd love to have a switch blade key personally. It gives the car a more upscale look, as compared to the big keys....

My friend has the switchblade on his Jetta, and it's pretty nice. It's also a really compact unit.

But yeah one time he got into his car really fast, put the key in the ignition, cranked it and the key actually ripped right out and was stuck in his ignition... LMAO... yeah he had to have it towed into a VW dealer and they removed it and gave him a new key fob...

lol the moral of this story^^
is get in your car cautiously the first few times lol. we all wanna get in and start it and got VROOM VROOM. but do it carefully lol. enjoy the first time sitting in those seats with the rumble of the engine and make sure you let that engine warm up before you go flying out of the dealership. or better yet don't go that fast until after you break that baby in

This depends if chevy uses the keys like the mustangs do. Yes, you can make a copy of the key, but you can only open the doors/trunk with it. It will not let you start the car with the copied key because it is missing the microchip inside.

Pain in the ass. Hopefully chevy doesnt go this way.

if you have one of the actual keys in the car you can use the spare you make. i tried it on our VW Touareg today. it just senses the real key nearby and thinks you are using it.

doesnt that defeat the point of having a spare key?

for the most part, but I am picturing me getting copies made and haveing the "real" key in the glove box and one spare to use with another as a 'spare'.

I mean, switchblade keys are fun to play with and stuff at first but in the end I think they look really bad in the ignition and do not feel sturdy enough. My main keyring has all metal keys on it, so if I drop it over and over (:P)
or throw it to a friend and he misses (once a week) or get pushed in the pool (every once in a blue moon), its ok.

No point complaining too much though, I am still getting a camaro after all. No one will like everything, so at least we all agree on the major stuff :P
