I got a chip in my windshield on Monday, and I am waiting for the glass guy to come this afternoon to repair it. So far it hasn't spread.

Geico will waive the deductible and pay for it to be repaired.

If you're wondering why our insurance rates are so high...I remember going to a Glass place in my area (well-respected one) and I asked them how much would I have to pay for an OEM replacement (on my Stang) and they said: $275. I then decided to go with my insurance...they billed my insurance (one of the top 5 companies in the country) $475 for it. When I asked them why were they charging the insurance company so much and they said, that's what we've contracted with them... it's not a wonder our insurance rates keep rising.

the insurance companies tell us what they will pay. if we overcharge the insurance company they do not pay the bill.

for example:
2010 camaro w/ out remote start
450.00

through farmers insurance
722.65 -24% = 549.21
labor 43.50 per nags hr = 143.55
kit = 30.00

total price 722.66
minus deductible paid to shop 250.00

insurance would pay the shop 472.66

guy just came out from the Glass Doctor. Because the chip is in front of the driver, they are not allowed or supposed to repair it. He said there were two points of impact in the area that would also make it impossible to repair.

New PPG windshield = $486+ installed.

Pisses me off. I've already replaced the windshield and had a deer run into my rear quarter panel in the first 9 months of ownership.

Is it time to get a $0 deductible and pay out the butt in insurance costs?

That's what I'm doing, they wanted to come to the house, but I said I'd rather do it in a shop.
That bites. Free glass replacement is part of my insurance policy. No deductible.

What company? Is this an option in your policy or built in? I need that.

Allstate.

Never had an issue with claims either. I got into an accident where I rear-ended someone on the highway in my 91 RS. A guy two cars up had a high speed blowout on his tire where i couldn't stop in time. Slid right into the car between us. They paid the claims and didn't have an increase in premiums. Gotta love the accident forgiveness as well. I have since had the car repaired and its now insured through their partnership with Hagerty.
