That wasnt OnStar, it was a custom immobilization thing. I'd rather have OnStar ability to shut down my car if it is stolen than worry about some disgruntled employee.

That uhh.... has zero to do with OnStar. It was some shotty crap a dealership installed.

That's kind of like saying don't ever use your credit card online because someone once had theirs stolen by a fraudulent website.

Sorry, but the benefits far outweigh any risks IMO.

What made you think this was remotely close to OnStar?

That is funny! I will think of this everytime I see a used car commercial stating no credit needed. Instead of the horn honking there should be a loud speaker saying, "I didn't make my car payment." (over and over)

What does this have to do with OnStar? Two completely different systems used for completely different purposes.

You might want to read the full story on this. This was a shop that installed aftermarket GPS

More than 100 drivers in Austin, Texas found their cars disabled or the horns honking out of control, after an intruder ran amok in a web-based vehicle-immobilization system normally used to get the attention of consumers delinquent in their auto paymentsRead More http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/201...r-bricks-cars/

I first heard of the remote lockout systems when I saw a TV commercial from a little local dealer that was bragging about how they don't use them. I knew the dealer's name because they sold a coworker a car at a 24% interest rate. (I'd call that outrageous, but after helping her move TEN times because of failure to pay her rent, I'd say she probably ripped them off!)
