I dont think its that it was drone. I think that the people complaining about "drone" just dont want to hear any exhaust note at all inside the car, but want everybody outside to hear what a beast it is. It dont work like that. If you want a mean sounding exhaust, you are going to hear it inside the car. I have the muffler delete and LOVE the sound and am fixing to put long tube headers, high flow cats, and an x-pipe to make it louder. I am sure it will sound really mean since the cam is going it to, but I WANT a LOUD MUSCLE CAR. Most of the people crying about drone dont know the diffrence between drone and a "muscle car exhaust note". I say keep it stock if you dont want to hear the exhaust.

I have an L99 and I removed both the resonator and the mufflers. I'm used to the "drone" now. My car's loud as f*ck lol. I think you should've kept driving it for a few days, and then decide.

Well from what I understand/know and experience the technical explanation of drone would be the resonance frequency of the car/exhuast system. Its the frequency where every comes together to make a very loud annoying sound. This is directly related to the acoustics of the car and the exhuast system. Think of a a subwoofer on each ear outputing a constant deep irritating/percing tone. It shakes the cabin and your head.

Sometimes regular cars do a similar thing when you have some windows down just the right amount and you hear feel this pulsing flutter on your ears thats cause by the wind coming in and "shaking" the air.

Best I can explain it right now.

I went for a ride in it again today to see if it was just me. Nope. Anywhere between 1500-2000 there is drone depending on loading. I tried cruising in 4th,5th and 6th...there is drone there.

To those saying I may not know what drone is...you may be right, maybe I do not. If that is in fact just "exhaust sound" in the cabin, then your right, I should go back to stock. But I have heard others cars....and I do not hear drone. But I do here a nice furocious sound coming from the back. I like that.

THis "drone" doesnt have a distinct direction of origin. It all around you in the cabin.

I test drove a 2010 mustange. Its sounded really nice in cabin. You could here the rumble of the engine even with casual accel. I do not remember the "droning" I hear now.

You hit the nail on the head. "Drone" is exhaust note.

The 2010 Mustang has a tube running from the intake into the cabin to provide the sound you heard. Nothing to do with the exhaust.

I got the muffler delete done last summer (still have it). I have no drone at the cruising RPMs you mentioned, but still have the stock resonator & H-pipe, so that's probably why. However, I've heard you gain about 8 HP by removing the resonator, so I guess there's a trade-off there.

All due respect, you are 100% wrong on that one. the car hits a "note" at 1850-1950 rpm on the highway, goes thru some people for sure, You have to gas it to 2000+ rpm to get rid of it. or go below 1850rpm. Makes me nuts!!

Don't discount what you are hearing, it's drone. If You hear it, it's drone!!
FLdrummer says he don't have drone. Maybe the Xpipe altered things a bit and now you have drone.
1. remove Xpipe
2. go for the fences and get a Corsa.

JMROD,
What kind of car do you have? Manual or automatic?

There is a difference in the exhaust on these two. I rode in Kdbolt70's SS with muffler delete and did not hear the drone. There were points you could hear it, but nothing that was like the loud noise I heard on Efpardo's Solo Exhaust (v6 auto).

Kdbolt70 has the manual transmission. So if you have auto, the different pipe size might be the cause of this problem.
