Yeah, I'd say it could still make a difference in fighting off heat soak when running the AirRaid...although prolly not as much so as stock. Just my guess.

I relocated mine with the stock box on and I kept it relocated after I installed my Airaid. I'll get a pic and post it to show where I put my relocated sensor in the Airaid air box.

One thing that I should mention on this mod. Be careful drilling the hole in the top of the airbox. I got a little careless and ended up with large broken edges around the hole and had to rework it to make it right. I would recommend that you cut out the ribs inside before you drill. I was going to but I got the stupids.

Yeah... I don't think I pointed out cutting the rib before drilling ... but you can see in my pic where we trimmed it...

So this mod helps performance by tricking the computer that the air coming in is colder than it actually is when it enters the engine?

Doesn't sound like a good idea.

1. you are making your car run rich thinking it's getting colder denser air and adding fuel to accomodate.

2. you will do damage in the long term to your o2 sensors and catalytic converter with the extra fuel.

3. the small gains are not worth the long term damage.

4. using extra fuel will decrease your mileage.

Giving your engine a "fake/altered reading" of anything is never a good idea, just my two cents

The issue is the stock MAF/IAT sensor, and the stock location (right over top of the radiator hose!) suffers terribly from HEAT SOAK... As it's been pointed out guys have been doing this mod on a lot of different cars for a very long time and folks like Vector even sell plug-n-play kits...

Also, i monitored my fuel trims very closely. There was no sign that the car was running RICH...

It's not a fake reading at all. It lets the sensor get a truer reading of the actual incoming air. I like the vector sensor too with it's ability to react much quicker than the stock sensor. Not to mention it's a plug and play kit with no cutting of wires.

1.Car runs rich to begin with.

2. With the car already running rich, o2 sensors and converters are probably set up for this.

3. I saw a 4rwhp gain for $52 and 10 minutes of time. Over 12000 miles later, no damage, no CEL, nothing of the sort. Car sees actual, ambiant temperature, not a fake, tricked out one.

4. Fuel mileage hasn't suffered one bit from doing this mod. If anything, it's gone up as the motor isn't pulling as much timing as it was before and there is less unburnt fuel leaving the cylinder. Now, this is pure speculation, I have no data to back that up. All I can say, without a doubt, fuel mileage will not suffer doing this.

Again, we aren't tricking the ECU or anything. The IAT is now reading closer to actual ambiant air temp, doesn't suffer from heat soak, and as such, the motor is running more efficient, IMHO. And for less then $60, it showed a verifiable gain, something some $300 plus CAIs didn't do in Jannetty's testing!

BTW, I recommend everyone buy a UniBit for this kind of stuff, lol. They are lifesavers for this type of install!!

Well, I'd think this mod could be beneficial for both the V6 and V8s. But then again I don't know how bad heat soak affects the V8 performance, but on the V6 it is definitely a noticeable loss in performance.

Perfectly doable on the SS, though I'm unsure if you'd see any benefit.
