First, I'd suggest you check back in with your dealer and see how much time you have before the order is placed. Then I'd use that time to sit down, and write out the "pro's and con's" of the V8 v. V6.

Make that decision based on your feelings. If the main issue is sound, I honestly feel based on what I've read, that GM has put alot of effort into the sound of the V8 and V6, so personally, I wouldn't worry too much worrying about "sound".

Also, the V6 is a GREAT performer. You can have most of the same features as the SS, while saving money on fuel, insurance, etc..

The bottom line is, decide for yourself. Take time to contemplate the V8 v. V6, and decide. You really can't go wrong. The Camaro is an awesome machine, regardless of whether its the V8 or V6.

I want the 2SS (w/RS, auto, sunroof, GFX, grille) and was really disappointed when the pricing came out (pricing isn't 'bad', just not what we were led to believe). 2SS with all the options I want pushes it over $40,000. I was planning on closer to $36,000. $4000 may not sound like a lot when you're already looking at a $35,000+ vehicle but it's $66 more a month before interest. And that $40,000+ is before taxes and such.

I did the math and thought 'I could get the 2LT, with the options I want, well within my price range'.

But since the intro in '06 I've wanted (and told everyone I would get) the V8. So I KNOW I'll wish I'd gotten it if I settled for the V6 instead. (That and I'd never hear the end of it from everyone I know for getting a V6. I got it bad enough when I bought an '02 V6. LOL)

So I guess I'll be saving a little longer (unfortunately with most allocation being filled through 3rd Quarter '09 that means I won't be able to get one until next fall even if I saved the $$ before then).

Now if a dealer has a 2SS w/RS, auto and sunroof on the lot before then, in the color I want, I'd take that since it's what I wanted to order anyway. The GFX and Grille are dealer installed anyway.

So it comes down to what you want most. At 17 I would have been happy with either one. LOL

Personally I don't want any teenager with a 422hp RWD car on summer tires. You are just asking to wrap yourself around a tree. Of course the 300hp is only going to be moderately better.

Be happy your pops doesn't make you get a Civic because thats what I'd do to my kid.

Yeah, dude. Sound is not good enough reason to pay... what? 5 extra thousand dollars? The power and speed is the real reason to buy it.

But if you bought it expecting to pay 30k for a fully loaded SS, I can see how this changes your mind.

Get the V6. You won't kill your social life working all the time and you'll get decent performance for a relatively low price. I had to struggle when I first got the GTO, because the promotion I had been promised took longer than I thought. I struggled for a few months dealing with the new payment and eventually got the promotion. But I got a taste of what you're getting yourself into.

Just out of curiousity, what did you expect the price for the 2SS/RS to be?

Also, I hate to say it.. The Camaro V6 will be a decent performer. A mid 14 second car is going to get beat up on a lot if you find yourself racing on the street or at the track. 270 lbft will not motivate this car to move very fast. And judging from engines like this one, they won't respond as well to mods as a V8 and you'll have to put serious money into them to make them V8 fast and you'll still be lacking FE3 suspension and Brembos.

Just being honest and letting the guy know what he'll have to life with when he gets his V6.

0-60 in 6 seconds and 0-60 in 4.6 seconds is a huge difference.

The other thing to think about is that you can always get a 2ss/rs later when you are done with school. who knows by then maybe you can even afford (if it is released by then) a z/28

yeah, once again thanks for all the help...it's still a tough choice...

someone asked how much I thought the 2SS would be....and I was looking around 34ish and it come out to be about 38 after taxes...looking at it 4000 isn't much but it is around 50 dollars more a month...by the way...my birthday is monday and I will be 19...not 17...so I'm still undecided...I wish it was an easy choice...it seems like my dad wants me to get the V8, and my mom wants the V6...(go figure lol)...I think I will have to make my choice for sure once my truck sells(if it ever does)... so once again thanks and keep the advice coming.

Take it from a guy that has been there -- get the 2LT. If you spend too much you may end up having to sell the car. If you "settle" for the V6, you have only lost some performance. And to be perfectly honest, 300 HP is incredible. And I am not intending to insult you by saying you're only 19, but you are. That money can be applied towards college, books, drinks, dates, and maybe towards buying your first home. Don't put yourself behind the financial eight ball at such a young age.

/end lecture

All that having been said, I well understand the irrational passion of car buying.

Just thought I'd note, since I said was would wait, that I came to a decision today to go ahead and order the car. I'll just leave off the 2 options that I want that are dealer installed (GFX and Grille). They were what put it out of my price range (for now), so I figure I can have them added at a later date.

Downgrade to a 1SS. I'd rather have a V8 than leather and all the other bells and whistles.
