I really need your guys help....
You may know me from the "I saw one i ordered one, I sat in one thread"... Well my 2ss/rs is on order...but I am seriously debating changing it to the V6... The main reason for this would be cost wise...I really want the V8...but its pushing everything to the limit... My main reason wanting to stick out with the V8 is sound...so can anyone tell me how good you can make this V6 sound... Also..is there anyone else who switched from the V8 to V6?? If so will you tell me your final reason for the switch... So what should I do...I want the power...but I also want a life outside the car...so help me out, thanks in advance. |

I would go for the V8. If you get the V6, you will always wish you had the V8. If you can't afford the V8, then put off getting a new car and save until you can afford it, it will make you appreciate the car even more than you do now.
That's what I'm doing. If i can't come up with the money for a 2SS, I'll wait until i can, and won't settle for anything less. |

I don't want to sound rude. But you are only seventeen, if i recall. I am sixteen so this is coming from someone your age as well. I would suggest you save your money, and your parents money. The V6 is great and with 300 or so horsepower you are not going to be getting jipped on power. The V8 will always be the supreme and holy grail but for our age i think we should wait until we are older and then upgrade ON OUR OWN, with our own money, to the V8. It will give us a greater respect for Muscle cars and the Camaro. I realize you want the sound and growl of a V8 but the production crew is working very hard to get both sounds great. Sure it won't be the same as a V8 but again i repeat I don't feel we will be missing out on much. Besides if you want you could save the money and spend it on a couple mods which would get you some of the horsepower and sound you lost.
So sorry for my long post, but like I am doing, I would say just play it safe and get the V6 and when we are older we can get that prized v8 on our own. Whatever it is you choose, good luck and be happy you are getting a Camaro |

Well, I was set on a 2SS/RS until the pricing came out. I ordered a 2LT/RS instead because I would rather have $6000+ than 100 more HP. The V6 is still an amazing car and will be leaps and bounds above my 2002 v6 Mustang.

I was having the same debate -- but I am slightly older than the OP. ;-)
300 HP is a lot of power - 6.1s for 0-60 is a screamer. I love the idea of saving $7k up front, + tax, + financing + cost of gas (not only in terms of MPG, but the type of gas required) over the time you own the car. In addition to that, you will save money on insurance. So that $7000 you save initially, works out to be potentially twice that over five years. Somewhere between $12-14,000. That having been said, the Camaro is not intended to be a practical purchase -- it is a car for those that are passionate about driving. But sometimes practical matters are a concern for even the most passionate of drivers.

well that's i tough call, but i am making the same discision. and i am going with a lt2 reason being
SS1 OR TLT2 I would get more use with having a better dressed up car for less, upgraded sound, leather, polished wheels, rs option and some of the stuff that comes with the ss2. the price will still save me about 4 grand also save a little on gas and insurance, yes with the v8 you gain some of the braging rites and more solid car but i would tend to enjoy the upgrade interior and better sound system and other extras i mention more then the extra hp which you can't really use all the time speeding tickets etc. 300 hp with maybe a few mods down the road will still be a pretty fast car, but if i had major bank i would go with the ss2/rs but with tax and interest i be in the high 30 and thats more then i can afford now. |

you can always combine resonators, glasspacks and/or mufflers to change the sound and make it sound good. it may not be the burble of a V8 but it will still sound fasntastic. as the DI v6 goes, Motortrend loves how it sounds and loves thier long term test CTS with its power and fuel economy.
look at it this way justin, i think you could probably be happy with either car. and i would suggest you look at my personal experience and see some of my insight. i bought a 2005 colorado new only 3 weeks after i graduated from high school. 29,900 vehicle when i bought it, but i have enjoyed it immensely. If you are going to be going away to school and will be on a tight budget why not get the 2lt, for 3 reasons, cheaper insurance and cheaper gas . if your not going away to school why not just get the 2ss, you can probably work and pay for it. Really all in all its a coin toss. you should be happy with either.

well if I go with the V6, I will need someone's help getting the sound the way I want it. ..thanks everyone for the advice....I guess I have about two months for the decision.....but I think it would be smart to go with the V6...I mean it has 300+ hp, and it's not like I would be able to race the V8..... |

Go here: http://www.gm.ca/gm/english/vehicles...camaro/insider
watch the third video (titled "Suprised by the six"). It might settle your concerns with the six.

I would go for the 2LT if I was in your situation, and a 0-60 time of 5.9-6.1 is no slouch either.

Thinking back to when I was 21, I purchased a Mustang GT V8 and would not settle for anything less than the V8. However, a couple months after the excitement and newness left, I wish I had went with a lesser model because of the insurance cost, premium over the V6, etc... You are a young guy and have many years ahead of you to buy what you want. Why put yourself in a position where you are living for your car. I will be ordering the 2lt/rs.
