I agree that it is a very limited viewpoint. I myself can afford the V8, but I feel the V6 is the better overall value. 304 HP is quite a bit of power. Plus up front savings, fuel and insurance cost over the lifetime of the car.. the V6 is a VERY attractive balance.

But I am glad the V8 is there -- it honors the heritage of the Camaro and gives the purists something to get excited about!

I made the decision to get the V6 because I've given enough of my money to the greedy oil companies. So don't start looking down your nose at me for getting a V6, it's a choice.
Didn't read this post before...

When I first started gaining interest in the Camaro, believe it or not after I heard the Camaro was getting a 300+hp V6, I was like wow that's all I need. I'd love to have a V8 don't get me wrong, I'll try and get an SS if possible...

For a while I started having the "V8 or nothing" mentality as well too, but I'm going to wait for the Camaro V6 performance #'s to come out shortly after it launches to make any further decisions.

I'm also using the Cobalt SS Turbocharged's performance #'s sorta as a benchmark for where I'd like to see the V6 perform and if it manages to perform similar I may just be looking into a V6 Camaro... I guess I have to wait and see...

Thinking about this more -- V8 or nothing is right up there with if you don't drive stick you aren't driving. Very myopic thinking.

1. As the owner of a BMW 3.0, I can tell you that today's 6 cylinders are nothing to sneeze at...and the choice was not due to $$, either.
2. Mustang V6's outsell the V8's, and would bet the Camaro's will do the same.

Hello all. This is my first post so bare with my cherry popping session. I agree in philosophy with the V8s or nothing mentality. To me that is what muscle car heritage is. No one talks about the B.A. straight six that the 69 Camaro came with. And I think most all would agree that a little luster is lost on a classic Camaro when that hood pops and there is no small block under there. I have no problem with V6 sports cars. I love 911s and true rice rockets like the Twin Turbo (sure I’ll see this happening to the Camaro) Supra. But to me V6 is their territory. While I enjoy their sushi, I don’t try and cook it myself any more than I won’t them flipping my burgers.

I think a lot of us would love for the Camaro to be a V8 only performance monster similar to the Vette and the V-10 Dodge Viper. But that would come with a Vette or Dodge Viper price tag to make up for drastically smaller unit sales. Don’t hate on the V6 because it is funding the V8s life. I think it will be a hell of a car still and a lot of fun for those who choose it. But honestly, if I can’t afford the V8, I just won’t get a new Camaro. I know my opinion of people in Boxsters is that they couldn’t afford 911s but had to have a Porsche. That is and always has been my opinion. And remember we are all bowtie brothers. You can pick on family but be damned if anyone else does. Save that ammo for the blue oval pony pansies. And happy driving. I’m sure you’ll all be in whichever version you choose before me. Drive it like ya stole it.

They should only make super-sonic jets for commercial airliners.
Computers should only be mainframes with bagillion Giggawatts of memory.
ALL phones should be directly linked to geo-sync satellites.
All Buildings need to be 100 stories tall (with 20 basement levels) or bust.
Everyone should drive on racing slicks and quad-turboed W16 race-fuel engines
The moon should stay up in the sky all the time
and the Sun should never set (because I'm afraid of the dark...)

......People should also be able to make choices that are no more "right" or "wrong" than another. V6 or V8...it's your preference, they're both kick-ass, but most of all -- they're BOTH CAMAROs, so what's the problem?

Choices

It's a personal choice. I want the V8. Never have bought anything less. If its possible, never will.
