School me please....
So what is the reason \need for the catch can? Is this something that is a must have if you were to add the maggie. It seems as this is something you need due to a problem with oil leakage is this correct? I would not think this is something that is normal and wonder why so many people seem to be adding this catch can.
Is oil leaking as described by the OP part of what comes with adding S/C and the catch can is a must have if adding a blower? Educate me here guys please....I'm a newbie and not sure if I should think about a catch can if adding a blower, mainly the TVS2300. Thanks |

I believe its because oil is getting into the intake and the catch can catches this oil and prevents it from getting into the fuel mixture. It's not from adding a maggie, it's doing it in stock form. I'm sure somebody can go into more detail about it that knows more about it.

PCV catch cans are a must on LSx powered vehicles due to the stock PCV systems allowing oil vapors into the intake tract. Over time these vapors can cause harmful buildup and power loss. If you are pushing your car to it's full potenial, a catch can is a must. Pic up the current Camaro Performers Magazine for pics on the install.

It gets worse in hard corners when the oil collects up on top of the motor. We plumbed our catch can with a valve and drain hose to make it easy to empty when the engine is track hot. We use an import can (Greddy) because it was the biggest we could find. Holding over 1G steady state turns we can fill the can in a 20 minute session. The smoother the driver, the faster the driver, the faster we fill the can.
We are working with Saleen on a special edition Mustang. Everyone told me that the twin screw blown Mustang did NOT need a catch can. We installed a small one any way. Guess what? It wasn't big enough for our intended use. The Saleen Mustang will have twin catch cans with one on each side of the engine. If you run FI and drive hard you should run a catch can. |

Oil, when it goes into the intake, causes detonation and cylinder wash that means it eat the rings on the pistons. While not 50 state legal, you should ALL consider venting a valve cover with a breather that way you wont have all these problems. GM has already said the rear mains and oil coolers leak without any help |

I have a question about the way it is routed.
The clean side that goes from the valve cover to air inlet before the procharger... when it is sucking in clean air, won't it suck in oil from under the valve cover??? I understand the line from the valley cover to catch can, and then catch can to the intake manifold, should be free from oil. Does this sound right?

I can see that logic. I am heading on a good 600-700 mile trip this week so I will see how much oil I "Catch". It should stop the oil blowing out the blow off valve!

There is inside the can. I am talking about the nipple from the valve cover and that line goes strait to the intake of the procharger. That line does not got to the catch can.
