I had the same issue. Got several calls from bill collectors and people trying to sell me magazines. While driving home one day, right after receiving another call that was not for me, I called Onstar and explained what was going on.

They changed my phone number and they even credited some extra minutes to my account since the phone calls I received took away from the minutes the car came with. I didn't have to ask for anything, it was all offered after I told them what was going on.

I rarely use the onstar service but the few times I have, I have been impressed with the person assisting me.

Simply awesome.

But I would just call OnStar and ask them what to do. They may have a very easy solution. They are not trying to sell you a sevice where you are inconvenienced. But again, it isn't really OnStar.........it a cell phone with a phone number that happens to be your car. So if you were getting texts or calls on your cell phone, would you blame Verizon or ATT?
I agree.. People get one route use that takes them a mile out of the way and it is the end of the world and the service sucks. I guess they have never used a Garmin or TomTom..
Nothing it perfect but the turn by turn works as well as any GPS unit I have seen on the market today.

Buddy of mine that works for Chevrolet dealer here in town had a truck stolen off the lot and they had police contact OnStar. They got the location from OnStar and local police had the Truck back within 24 hours. I work with Law Enforcement around the country and I have asked a few about OnStar and they had some positive things to say about finding stolen cars with it. It's not perfect but you comment is way off.

I dont lock my keys in the car.

On the contrary. Working with OnStar I know of a vehicle with multiple weapons in the trunk that was stolen. The vehicle was found MINUTES later and the weapons recovered. Of course the people bailed and ran into an apartment complex (disappearing)... but the vehicle and guns were taken back all because OnStar was able to point Officers to the exact block it was in.

So to me OnStar is golden and I'm going to re-up the subscription when it expires. I can't stress to people how often I've heard great outcomes from this system especially the ones that disable the vehicle.

I feel for ya. I went through this with my regular cell phone, it lasted 1 YEAR. and I wasn't going to change my number either..... being the industrious person I am, I was able to do the searches on line and get the persons name, and physical address. Made a note so I didn't forget the info, and started givinhg it out the person on the other end.....the calls finally stopped as the word got around to all his creditors.

Hey, THIS EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME!

OnStar in my wife's new Equinox kept ringing right after we got it, and it was usually Honda Motor Credit calling about an unpaid car note.

Even worse, we thought the calls were coming over the Blu-Tooth from our phones. The bill collectors refused to believe that we weren't the people they were looking for.

Solution: we called OnStar and they changed the number immediately. They also gave us credit for several free minutes of handsfree OnStar calling.

Since then, no problems.

One or two "bad" (and I am using that word loosely) experiences with OnStar does not make it bad or useless... Individual experiences differ, so while I understand someone who had a bad experience, that does not mean everyone who uses OnStar will....

Cost is low enough to justify the expense IMO
Same here, I will renew the base package once the free year expires for emergencies etc but have no use for the turn by turn or calling features.

I haven't had a problem with my turn by turn yet, and I went on a 3000 mile trip through Yellowstone and back to Canada, not taking any maps whatsoever, just using Onstar. They were totally awesome and didn't lead me wrong once.

As far as the OP, I can't see why they wouldn't be able to change your number. It might take a day to set up, but wouldn't be anything major. It is probably 3 clicks on a computer.

I used turn by turn a couple times (or tried). Once I was trying to find a place and the OnStar rep couldnt locate it on the computer (even after spelling it for her), I pulled over and brought it with Google on my phone. The 2nd time I ask for the nearest WalMart (didnt know the area since my son moved), they sent directions to the one I was "near", way out of the way, pulled over and brought it up on phone, was just a mile away from one. What gives?!!?!

We need Droid in our cars.

Actually for me turn by turn is awesome. My friend has an Acura with a killer nav that he cant use while driving. The best feature is being able to send directions to the car directly from my computer. Also so far Onstar hasn't failed me once.

Turn by turn, get a Tom Tom.

Onstar, useless except for crashes.

On star has worked great for me. My garmin gps, I don't use at all now.
I will agree it is alittle expensive but I'm hoping the price might come down alittle.

Hasn't happened to me - then again as soon as I got the Camaro in May '09 I added the OnStar # to the National Do Not Call Registry - https://www.donotcall.gov/

Worth it to do IMO.
