You were hitting the rev limiter on a test drive?? I think you probably need to get the AT...

That's probably why I ordered my car rather than buying off the lot

I've hit the rev limiter in my manual more times than I care to mention. I was trying to shift at like 6500 rpm. After doing some homework, I learned I should shift the car at 6000 since it will drop you into the sweet spot on the next gear plus max hp/tq are around 6k and drop off a little after that.

I have had numerous muscle cars and always always always wondered what the stick version would be of the car I had but never wondered what the auto was like when I had the stick.

The stick is way more fun!

The automatic is great. People prefer them over manuals for many different reasons.
I owned lots of cars both manual and automatic. I prefer an automatic for a car I like to drag race.

The L99 A6 is a completely different car with a couple mods and a tune. So if you don't mind getting a few mods (intake, headers and a tune), you'll love your L99 A6.

Very helpful. I love manuals. I just hate how the rev limiter works on the M6. On the test drive I hit it a few times. I guess with some practice I'd get use to it. Maybe!

The L99 is a nice engine but GM had a real brain fart with the AFM system (auto fuel management) that shuts down four cylinders when coasting. Unless you plan to tune out AFM (and void your warranty) your have to live with hesitation coming out of AFM and drone if you ever go to an aftermarket exhaust system. The stock A6 exhaust system has an extra resonator in an attempt to quiet down the AFM drone.

Now if GM offered an LS3 with an A6, that would be sweet.

I was supposed to go with the A6 since the camaro is my first car ever and I learned how to drive in a auto tranny and no one else in my fam has ever drivin a manual but I went the M6 for the LS3 and learned how to drive a manual. Took a LONGGG time though.

So with an Auto I can apply my makeup that I keep in my European bag!

I guess I might as well cut off my sack too.

You got it right.

I've had a 6M before ('94 Z-28) and loved it. Now with 6 gears in an auto, it's not 1994, anymore. But drive what you feel like. It's just fun to kid a little.

Hilarious responses lol.

I was the opposite of you. After having driven manuals all my life I got spoiled the last 6 years with the automatic in my Lightning. We got the V6 first and it's an automatic and I liked it so when I was looking for my SS that's what I wanted. After test driving the car I now have with a manual though, I fell in love with them all over again. I just have to have a manual in my cars that I race. It's a more pleasurable, connected experience to me. I haven't had any issues hitting the rev limiter, I don't know what that's about.

If you like to ride get the auto, if you like to drive get the manual.

Driver or passenger? That's the question.

Why do people care about tenths of seconds so much? Just get the car that you want to drive everyday. Unless it is strictly a track car, then go ahead and worry about who "wins." 99% of the time, you won't be racing someone where that tenth of a second matters, anyway. 100% of the time, you will be driving the car, however. Go satisfy the thing that matters more, how you feel while driving all the time.

Addition: I wanted to buy the V8. But I couldn't see myself paying an extra 7K+ in this part of my life for situations that I am only going to be using 5% of the time while I'm driving the car. Most of the time, I'm just driving. Not racing. So I compromised and got the V6 manual.

This turned out to be a funny and informational thread. For the record I had my dealer locate a manual. I was just a little concerned with the rev limiter. I guess I need to get use to the correct RPM's to shift at and I'll be fine. I mostly do Hwy. miles so sitting in traffic is not an issue or I wouldn't even consider a manual. Another great thing about a manual is that it keeps you active and engaged while driving. With cars being so comfortable and with great stereos its not hard to want to nap at the wheel.
