centering spring.....if that is the actual name for it then I must also agree, it does a job and probably a better idea to reinstall it than not. Must, probably not.

Just installed the shifter and put the factory knob on because i like the looks better than the machined knob. I left the centering springs of and do NOT miss them. Cheers Barton for the great product. Made my first testdrive just 5 minutes ago and still the adrenaline flows......

Just as one remark, my first 100 yards with the car i shifted in reverse by mistake, but luckily i noticed it. I think it's a little more easy to do that without the centering springs.

Update: I installed my Barton shifter last month and did NOT reinstall the centering springs. IMHO it feels way better without the springs. Much easier to get over to 5th and 6th gear. The Barton is absolutely great. I get some very light buzzing/vibration under hard accelerating at higher rpms but it does not happen all the time. Very impressed overall.

For those of you that put the centering springs back in after upgrading the shifter I would be interested in how you got them back in and got the top rubber dust boot seated properly. Looks like a major PITA

The best way I found was to pull up the interior rubber boot in the front and back.

When you look inside inside you'll see the tops of these two 8mm allen head bolts. Loosen them and the springs will pop out the top with the bolts.

Shifter will then drop out the bottom. Re-insert the little rubber thingys holding the boot on, and leave the darn springs off- you don't need the little PIA's.

I want to put the springs back. They are not required but I do not like missing the 3rd or even 4th gate, even though it rarely happens.

The boot was a Pia while removing the springs, installing them back was way more tougher, and an instant fail for me during my initial shifter swap. I definitely want the springs back. Can someone suggest how to put these back in? Any special tricks?
