Same feel i got. Much better that when i got it from the factory though! Haven't ground a gear or missed a shift since they replaced my 2nd gear pack.

How did you get them to fix it. I even went to a mister Transmission have it in writting that there is something wrong with the transmission. GM will not acknowledge. Been to 4 dealerships so far no result. They shift at 3000 rpm. I was in the car today with a tech and was asking him to shift above 3000 rpm and refused to do it.
Help please, I am at the end of my wits.. Right now I am looking to trade with an Audi A6 from 2008..

njdad61, Does your dealership have it on record that the problem was happening with the stock shifter? If so you'll be OK with the MGW, if not you may have to put the stock one back in before bringing it in!

No, I never brought it in with the stock shifter... But while I was at the dealer on Monday, no one mentioned anything about the MGW, so hopefully it won't be an issue. If need be, I'll just reinstall the stock one... Here's the link for the thread that details what I've gone through with the dealer so far:

OUCH!

I thought mine had a slight grind but no where near what you have. Hell, mine seems to be perfect compared to that.

How can they not fix that? I'm curious if they'll give you any grief over the MGW since I have one as well.

Good Luck!

A Chevrolet tech in our club said they only get paid 2 hours to rebuild the tranny..... that's why nobody wants to confirm a problem. They don't want to work for free. Interesting way of keeping warranty work down by GM. Might be that replacing the tranny pays more. Also heard Royal Purple was approved for them to use - it helped mine alot, but didn't go away totally.

watching your video I can see by your trans temp gauge it isn't close to being as warmed up as it needs to be for gm to not give you the standard operating as designed answer. They will say you need to let it warm up. Mine started doing it when cold, I followed their recomendation of pausing my shift from 1-2, but eventually it started doing it when it was fully warm too. If yours is doing it when warm you need to go to the customer service website if the dealer won't help you, and they will probably give you the same story. After they deny you, ask for the address you can send a letter to and send in a letter with all your details. Someone from gm corporate will call you and get your car fixed, at least they did with me.

Even when mine is right out of the garage cold in 30 degree weather mine never came close to what his is doing. Since hearing about letting the trans warm up I will say that I've noticed mine a little more notchy when cold but again not even remotely close to this.

It does get better when it's warm, but still does it intermittently. When the transmission fluid is cold it grinds like that 100% of the time. There is no way anyone in their right mind would say it's "Operating as Designed". Maybe "Malfunctioning as Designed"... Since the service manager apologized for not looking into it thoroughly last time, I have confidence that when they actually test drive the car Monday morning, they will choose to fix the problem. The tech actually asked me to bring it in the morning specifically, so he could make sure the grinding occurred. And in case they blow me off, the problem has been escalated to the District Rep. She will be calling me on Tuesday to find out what happened at the dealership.

sorry about your tranny, i just saw that vid. even though its not all warmed up it shouldn't be grinding like that. your not even quickly shifting you clutch and pause.

Thanks. When I first noticed it, I thought maybe I was shifting too fast for the clutch to react. But with the clutch disengaged for that long, it proves something is wrong with the internal parts in the transmission. I would blame the clutch, but since there is only a problem with one gear, the 2nd gear assembly must be the culprit...

A tad curious... having the same issue here but not nearly as pronounced. I tried double clutching and the problem diminished greatly. I guess this gives the trans time to match speeds and synchronize. I know this isnt the answer nor should it be. I wonder if the double clutching will minimize or stop your grinding until you can get it properly fixed.

I've tried double clutching and trying to manually synchronize the transmission, but regardless of how I manipulate the clutch/engine speed, it still grinds. The only thing that works is if I take it out of gear, pause for a second or two, then ease the shifter into 2nd. It's still really notchy when I do this, but doesn't make me cringe near as much! Now after about 15-20 minutes of driving, I shift like normal. But if I'm in stop-and-go traffic, I'll still get surprised by a grind or two...
