your right, it won't, I didn't RTFM

"In M (Manual Mode) the
transmission will shift as an
automatic until the Tap Shift
controls are used. Tap Shift
activates driver manual gear
selection."

So simply switching to M (and the dash indicator shows "S"), it still behaves like an automatic, so if you pull out, and go someplace over 3000 rpms and tap "+", it will go to 4th gear.

If you switch to M then tap to down, dash indicator shows "M1" and you can step up gear by gear, no skipping

So what your saying is, if i put it in m mode, at the stop light, light turns green and i go to about 3400rpm, if i tapshift up, its goes directly to 4th?
Ive never had that happen to me when i drove the autos.
But i do have one question, when you put it in Mmode, does it start in 2nd?
I heard somewhere it stays in 2nd, so you have to put it in first before moving foward? Is this true?
When i drove a L99, it was in first the minute i put it in M mode..but ive heard it being in 2nd from quite a few people

Im not trying to shoot you down, i just doubt that the v6 auto would have that
BTW Skip shift would only work if you tried to keep the rpms down.
The skip shift in the SS only activates when you accelerate slowly, you can bypass that by bringing the revs up in first gear.
Thats why skip is annoying because of traffic jams
Only SS M6s come with skip shift.

My Dashhawk can actually display current gear. When you stop the car goes into 1st gear no matter what mode you are in... (this is for V6 auto).

No, there's a couple different conditions that you have to meet to make it skip shift. It's between a certain mph and rpm, 2k rpm should be high enough to avoid it, and it locks you out of 2nd gear.

Yeah.. It's not really "skipping" gears... it's simply automatically upshifting.... so when you hit the + the car had already shifted to 2nd and 3rd... you hit the + while you were in 3rd...

Other thing you can do is simply hit the - as soon as you put the car in "M"... this will bring up M1 on the display...

Don't want to change the topic, (and this is probably a dumb question lol) but once your in Sport mode, or in manual shift mode, can you get back to regular drive mode? I guess what I'm asking is, can I go back and forth while driving down the road or do I need to be stopped?

Not a dumb question at all... Yes, you can shift between modes on the fly... I do it quite regularly... If you are in paddle/M mode the only way to get back to sport mode is to shift up into D and then back into M and then you are back in Sport mode.... Also I will shift up N for a few revs ( ) and then back into D/M while cruising down the street.. Shifts back into gear very smoothly and so far no adverse effect...

To get back on subject...Had this thought the other night.
My 68 with a GM 383 and Tremec 6spd actually gets better mileage if I keep the RPMs above 2k.
Could it be that keeping the RPM's low is effecting mileage? Is it not working as efficiently as it could at the below 2K rpm's?

You are stopped, you shift from "D" to "M". It still behaves as though you are still in "D" until the first time you touch the tap shift.

If you first touch the taps while stopped, you go from "S" to "M1". If you first touch them at some speed, you take over at some higher gear. I didn't realize this when I first tried it and happened to see it go from "S" to "M4" - leading me to think it was skipping gears.

Yeah, this happened to me, try driving your car hard and see what milage you get. I swear, i was keeping the revs under 2k and my gas milage was pathetic. So i said screw it, started driving her hard, shifting around 4500 rpm even 6k and my gas milage really improved.
As for the auto, i knew the v6s had no skip shift as there was never a need to lol
Everyone wih gas milage problems, drive your cars hard, it will make a difference, for the m6 v6s thats for sure.

I love to do the same thing. Especially when there's a Chally or Mustang passing me in the opposite direction.
