But I'm excited about it, because that means no engine-driven power steering, which means (imo) more efficient powertrain.
Electric power steering is more efficient, may be more dependable, and works with the engine off (which may only be meaningful to you if you spin out and stall the engine but the car is still rolling).

My VW has electric power steering and it feels great. It's the best modern steering I've ever felt; it gives me all the road feel I can use while still giving me enough boost that I don't have to put a lot of effort into turning the wheel. It's also adjustable. The only power steering I like better is old steering that, while failing to deliver any road feel, makes me able to steer entirely with my pinky finger (1987 Cadillac Deville, 1980 Buick Lesabre).

If you have electric power steering and don't like it, just adjust it. In the VW you can use a proprietary cable that connects to the OBDII port and allows you to change it (as well as a million other things). If it can't be adjusted on the Camaro either with a special cable or a setting on the DIC, it should be pretty easy to do right at the power steering unit.

I have never ever seen it as "Head's Up Display". Everywhere I've seen it, it's always been "Heads Up Display", implying that everyone's head could be up.

Well this is the first time I heard anything positive about electric steering, if they can do electric steering right in some cars I have no doubt it will be done right in the Camaro.

Think about the Vette....and a lot of the software from the Vette are being used on the Camaro, remember where some of the parts come from....I don't hear too many people complaining about it!

Can a HUD be installed later by the factory?? Or will that require a whole new dash?? I certainly will not be able to wait another 6 months while I see others driving them down the road...

What if you lose power in your car...and you're on the highway. Do you lose the steering also?

I had a POS Cougar and the alternator went while I was driving on the highway, of course the battery died and the car stalled. I was able to steer it off the highway, down the offramp and into the parking lot at the end of the ramp.

With electric steering...would I have been able to do that or does all steering capabilities go out the window?

If your engine stalled wouldn't you lose hydraulic steering also?

yes....the power steering pump is driven by the motor. If the motor stalls, you loose power assist but you can still steer but with increased effort. One of the benefits of electric power steering is, you still have power assist if the motor stalls. Another is less hp robbed from the motor to spin the hydraulic pump. What I don't know is if the system on the new camaro will be an electric motor spinning the hydraulic pump, or if its servos actually assisting the steering directly.
