Because they will do low 12s on stock tires with a good launch. The car can trap in the high teens, low 120s, with sticky tires 11s are no problem at all. I'd say TYPICALLY, with drag radials you'd see a gt500 do 11.7-11.8. With a real good driver it could do it considerably quicker, but it wouldn't be a "typical" run.

I was throwing out a guestimate. I saw 12.4-12.5 once on stock tires. I was assuming approx .5-.8 sec improvement with DR's. High 11's are possible. Mid 11's on slicks with the right driver I suppose. The GT 500 is notoriously hard to hook up on stock tread....

Fair enough.

I know DRs make a world of difference. But surely it can't be harder to launch than a 5th Gen Camaro?

I ran 12.3@119 stock the first time out with my stock 2011 after a big smoky burnout to get the G2's nice and sticky. Once I put on DR's I was running 11.7's with bad weather the only time I ran it stock with DR's. Now I'm modded but the record is 11.1@124 for the fastest stock GT500 on DR's, other good drivers are running 11.3-4's.

The vids are on youtube, and the owner of the 11.1@124 now added a pulley/ tune and is ran 10.87@126mph his only time out.

Ok.

That's actually what I meant. A 5th Gen Camaro with as much or more power than the Shelby.

It all depends on year and model.

The factory SS rear suspension was never designed or intended to hook up 550hp so of course its going to suffer in comparison to the 2011 GT500 which was designed and engineered to put the power down.

The new ZL1 address this with all the upgrades GM has done out back and it should much "Easier to launch" then the 2012 GT500.

Pre 2011 GT500's had terrible wheel hop problems even at stock HP levels which required about every owner to upgrade but Ford fixed all that in 2011 but it's still going to be harder to launch on the street due to the SRA design and narrower tires, but will have the advantage at the track with a set of stickies.

Well, I recently learned just how much a car suffers by not planting and going.

I'm actually hoping the ZL1 LCAs and maybe other parts will be swapable to the SS to go along with the work I've already done.

Well you may be opening a can a worms. Most SC'd SS owners just deal with it because sticky tires require expensive aftermarket or 18" C6Z's rims, then upgraded suspension parts and braces, then that will overload the factory axle's and diff during a hard launch and that will leave an even bigger dent in the pocket book and all for just a few 1/10'ths in the 60 foot which just isnt worth it for most owners.

The ZL1 will fix all of this and truly be the ultimate no fuss 550hp supercharged Camaro and will be backed by a warranty.

Messed around with a new 3.73 brembo package 5.0 yesterday that only has an axle back. My car has an axle back and a roto fab cai. Its a drivers race for sure.
