Camaro ss ls3 with 18 inch wheels vs mighty mustang 5.0

Just to make things interesting. How would a ss ls3 with 18 inch wheels stack up to the mighty mustang 5.0 both being stock except for 18 inch wheels !!

2011 mustang gt vs. 2010 camaro ss

http://www.insideline.com/ford/musta...camaro-ss.html

The Big Pedal on the Right
There are those who will judge this match purely on drag strip performance. OK, fine. The Camaro SS is still quicker than the Mustang GT. But not by much

On the quarter-mile at Auto Club Speedway in lush, parklike Fontana, California, IL's long-term Camaro SS whomped to 60 mph from a standstill in just 5.1 seconds with the traction control turned off (4.8 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip). The full quarter-mile went by in 13.1 seconds at 110.4 mph.
Our red Mustang GT (on all-season Pirelli P Zero Nero tires) matched the Camaro SS's blast to 60 mph by hitting that speed in an identical 5.1 seconds from a standstill with the traction control turned off (4.8 seconds with 1 foot of rollout). But the quarter-mile took another two-tenths to complete with a slightly lower trap speed, 13.3 seconds at 107.3 mph.
That's a razor-thin advantage for the Camaro and, just to throw in some additional ambiguity, we also tested another Mustang GT (this one in blue and wearing summer tires), which ripped to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and blitzed the 1,320 feet in 13 seconds at 110.6 mph. That's the kind of razor's edge that can be measured in microns.
Yeah, the straight-line performance is agonizingly close (and apparently varies car to car), but that doesn't mean the power plants of the Camaro SS and Mustang GT are clones of each other. With its advantage of 1.2 liters in displacement and old-school pushrod valvetrain, the Camaro's 6.2-liter LS3 V8 makes big chunks of torque down low in its power band (it peaks at 420 pound-feet at 4,600 rpm, but also makes plenty right off idle), and then pulls strong until it starves for air near its 6,400-rpm redline. It's a throwback engine with great bottom-end grunt and a pretty good top end
Drivers Race

also Road and Track rated the mustang the better car but Camaro beat it in the 1/4 mile
Down the straights is a different matter. The Camaro beats the Mustang by 2/10ths in the quarter, even offering launch control to help the novice. We defeated the system for our fast runs, though. The tall gearing of the Camaro allows for an ultra-lazy freeway cruise at 1400 rpm, but drop to 3rd for that hard acceleration from 75–110 mph, which is the perfect sweet spot for passing. The Mustang’s tighter-ratio transmission and optional final drive of 3.73:1 require a 3–4 shift in the middle of that same passing maneuver. Continued >>

What are you trying to prove by posting an article that has the slowest time out there for the 5.0 ? Want me to post a video or link of multiple other sources where the Mustang is running 12.7s ? That comparison test you posted isn't even apples to apples, the mustang is on all seasons....

08 G35 -There are so many videos and articles with both cars beating each other it is silly that so many people believe that every single stock mustang is faster than every single stock camaro it is just not the case not every mustang is going to run a 12.7

This reminds me of what it would have been like with IROC-Z owners and Fox Body 5.0s in the 80's.

When was the last time you took your car out to the track Rick? Lets see some times, dates, etc...

Being caught up in magazine racing is nothing but fail.

Tell you what. I have been to the track many times. Best time I have seen a 5th gen run was a 12.4. Full exhaust, LSx intake, cam, DR's, CAI, tune. Same track same evening, 2011 Mustang GT running 11.4 with a CAI, tune, O/R exhaust, gears and converter.

Everytime I have been to the strip, the rare occasion a 5th gen shows up and runs, it is underwhelming. I want to see some run great times. It would be refreshing.

Point of this is stop magazine racing. Take your car to the track and run it. Bring something to the table to discuss. We all know that magazines will exaggerate results and lack credibility. If you want to believe what they say then that is your prerogative but be aware that those of us who back what we say up with real world results consider that drivel to be in the same category as the land of unicorns, fairies and rainbows.

BTW - have you seen this video? It doesn't hold much value for me but if you want to compare ligers and leprechauns....

A 12.4 for a Camaro with those mods is pathetic. Hell I went 12.6 with just CAI, headers, and exhaust on the stock 20" wheels and tires.

I agree that in general the 5.0 is faster than the SS. More so with the autos and the manuals are more of a driver's race.

Right but what time of year did you run those times? DA plays a huge part. It was an L99 car as well.

No it doesn't. HRP/Royal Purple Raceway is one of the best tracks in the country and there are great runs made in the Fall/Winter there. When did you make that run? Got a time slip to post?

Nah it was good that night. Pass was last winter and I believe the DA was around -200. A lot better than my stock pass in the summer when it was +2000.
