Great move by Ford, it's good to see the 5.0 and now the 351 back in the mix. The only downside I see is that I don't think it's a substancial enough change to have present owners of GT500s move on up, where a twin turbo setup might have been really interesting. Still would like to see a Cobra comeback.

4.30 gears and a tune/cai fixes the heavy thing.

For now it will either get a CAI/Tune or just wait a bit and put a Roush or Eforce on it. It is the wifes car so I rather dump the money into my Z06 then her car.

4.30 gears in mustang will max out 5th at only like 135mph. People already have to shift to 5th in quarter mile with 3.73's on supercharged ones. Leave stock gears & add power

He is talking about the auto, 4.30 would be a bad idea in the manual unless you get a tune... and tires...

For the manual, 3.90 is optimal running N/A using a 28" tire. I recently moved over from a 3.73. |

Oh auto.. guess fast shifting auto that extra shift only add another tenth. None supercharger you trapping what 115mph still in 4th?

Whoops, I totally forgot about tires.. Increasing the diameter, naturally with DRs or slicks would pretty much eliminate any smoke shows that would occur with the all seasons and 19s. The absolute best thing to do it you geared too high is to go up to 28s.. Big Dan is the expert on 26 vs. 28, 26s might produce great 60 foot times but 28s will ride out gears longer... It basically comes down to the individual vehicle setup and maybe even the track location... Drag racing is actually pretty complex once you get technical.

I don't have an issue in my 5spd Boosted GT with 4.10's. Probably heading to the track next week, and I don't think I will run out of gear in 4th by the end of the 1320.
4.10's are about the most I'd go, anything past that is a waste IMHO. |
