The ICE simply generates electricity to keep the battery charged at a predetermined level in charge-sustaining mode. If the car needs to travel at speeds faster than 70 MPH, however, the ICE bypasses the battery and sends electricity directly to the electric motors driving the drive wheels.

At least that's how I understand it.

I don't think that's possible to directly feed power to the motors. It would be "dirty" electricity unless the revolutions of the engine/generator were meticulously timed.

I think the only people who really know how the Volt's powertrain works are the engineers, and they probably can't explain it in a way that would make sense to us.

All in all, looking at all the **** that has been going on in the past day, the amount of positive, gushing reviews about the Volt far outnumber the idiotic and ****ty "journalism" of two websites in particular. I better see retractions from both tomorrow morning or GM should deny them access to all press events for eternity.

Hey on a lighter note, my neighbor's son works for Chrysler. He brought a new 200 over and had it in the driveway. I was going to secretly grab a few pictures, but he didn't stay long enough.

Rear view looks pretty nice. Side view is the same old car and is not very attractive.

I yelled to him, "Hey, I just saw the pictures on the web today". He said it was a very nice improvement with a new interior and that it was much quieter.

Good for Chrysler.

I noticed that Chrysler didn't show any photos of the side profile. Looked just like the Sebring.

Call your local UAW Local and see if they can get you one. I know one time several years ago, I had a competitive VW and they wouldn't let me drive it in the parking area. So they mean business.

The sudden elimination of aerophobia, the invention of teleportation or coordination of vacation time to April 2011 and Phoenix.

LOL, I've been working on the second solution in my basement.

However, we are working on a certain car that DOES exist for Florida at Christmas..............maybe Thanksgiving if everything goes well................and both if things go best.
