I hear thats about the only way to get a more representative number with ram air, at least above what the cold air part already did.
Thanks everyone. I don't mind helping out with this at all...my wife might though, given all the time I spent doing this but maybe a 2 week vacation to Arizona will help her forget. Well, other than the only reason we initially planned on going was was for C5Fest.

blackbee - as for the fan, yes, there was a 4' industrial fan in front of the car but it certainly wasn't a 60mph fan. It was kind of like a tuner VTEC Honda - loud but not necessarily fast.

I wonder what kind of gains I can expect if I pair this with my Corsa catback and DT headers?

Thanks for all your work on this

Holy crap batman! 25 hp? Did they use the 60 mph fan to help in the ram air affect? And was that hood open or closed?

The fan was on but we had the hood open for most runs, so no ram air effect for these runs. Closing the hood didn't seem to make much of a difference at all anyhow, other than to cause the engine to heat soak quicker due to lack of airflow between runs.

It's hard to replicate the airflow needed on a stationary dyno to truly see the ram air effect, which is why all of the R&D up until this point has been done on the road with data logging. Patrick is toying with an idea on how to build a fan setup that can truly push out enough air at a high enough speed to help simulate the ram air effect while stationary on a dyno. However, it's not quite ready yet and I'm sure y'all would scream loudly if we delayed this intake much longer so he could work on the fan setup.

Yeah, seen several dynos with airaid where the hood open/closed was only like 1-2 hp difference so not surprised this was the same.
That is some gain! I'll have to watch the inevitable independent testing, especially with other mods like mine to see if the numbers hold up or improve. besides havent had the Injen on that long!
One thing, looks like your peak torque was a bit early, usually at around 5000 or so.maybe power fell off a bit also?

I agree that it'll be good to have more independent testing done as people get these installed, especially on different setups and vehicles. I can see what it has done with my car and, if I remember correctly, these numbers are inline with what Vararam was seeing with the data logging they had done months ago with a V6 auto.

It's hard not to look at these gains and just say...Damn, look at that! But, honestly, it's quite a dramatic change in the how the V6 runs on the street. I've been running with the various prototype intakes for a while now and have gotten used to the increased throttle response and across the board torque gains.

After we swapped back to the stock intake after yesterday's session, the car started recalibrating itself and I lost the performance gains. It sucked! Best test for me is always going up an overpass on the freeway doing 60mph in 6th gear. Stock always bogged down, even under full throttle, and slowly, really slowly climbed up 61....62.....63. With the Vararam intake, it was no problem going up and accelerating quickly...60, 63, 66...so much so that I had to start being a lot more careful because I'd easily break 70 in a 60 zone by the top of the overpass if I didn't keep things in check. I used to downshift a lot (6th to 4th or even 3rd) when trying to pass on the freeway. Now, I might drop to 5th but not usually.

I think once people can get these installed and they get the required ECM recalibration miles on the car, you guys will be surprised how much more you'll like your V6. For most of us, it's not too much of a slouch in stock form but it will really wake up and show you what it's capable of.

As for those that have already done other mods (headers, exhaust), I've been reminding Vararam of this and they purposely left a bit of growth room in the design and the MAF scaling to allow for those mods too. Keep in mind that I do have a SOLO cat-back on my car that multiple dyno runs [pre-Vararam] have shown little (1-2hp) to no gains. Sure it sounds great but it isn't worth much for power.

To bad on the Solo. Usally cats are good for 5-8.My mrt is about 4-5 Ive seen, not much but something, but again you never know till you really test in a controlled situation.

And good they took mods into account. I think thats part of the problem with other items, no one company thinks of what you may do. Mods seem to be setup, and same in the past, to be best by themselves over stock with no room to grow.
