Ford Responds...
Wonder if it will make its way up to 427 hp....
It appears that the 'shot over the bow' with the Camaro is drawing a response...let the HP wars continue! http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/20/r...ng-also-get-e/ |

This will be interesting. Like I said in that last epic thread about the mythical 5.0/400HP Mustang... I just don't see it happening. I don't claim to know the costs of these engines, and I'm sure the economies of scale will definitely be in play being that the motor will be shared by the #1 selling vehicle in the world (F-150), but I can't for the life of me see how Ford can put the Coyote in the Mustang withot raising the price to be at least EQUAL to the Camaro's. And that just goes against their business model for that car... as far as the Mustang is concerned Ford's always made 'em cheap and left it to their buyers to make 'em fast. Maybe Ford is spooked enough to finally drop the knife and bring a gun to the gunfight but, man, I just don't see it... not for a few years at least.

By announcing so early a new engine that is more powerful, it will hurt the sales of this years GT.

I don't know about GM putting a "better" engine but maybe adding more horsepower to the LS3. Either way I doubt GM will let the Camaro go down without a fight. I doubt it. The Mustang is a big seller no matter what. |

This might be just what we need, thanks Ford for potentially waking the Z28 from its slumber.

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."
