Honestly, I think, due to the market, the need to keep the Corvette and Camaro separated and stay competitive with Ford, the price for the unblown, full production Top Dog (SS or Z28) Camaro (my guess with an LS3 and between 380-450hp) will be in 34k-38k range, fully optioned. Now, they may do a limited production run, blown LS3 with 500+ hp for just above 40k or so, but it will be very similar to the GT500 in that it will probably sell for well over that and I won't be interested in it at all. I will gladly pay my 35k for a 400hp, naturally aspirated LS3 and wipe the floor with 95% of the Mustangs I see out there while doing 5k in mods over the years to make it even more powerful. Also, while I agree the Vette and Camaro are different cars, the market for each consists of Chevy performance enthusiasts who in many cases could give a damn about having a trunk and a small back seat. The Camaro gets too close to the Vette (price or performance) and the Vette will lose some of its mystique, Vette owners worldwide will raise a huge stink and a lot of people that would have bought Vettes will buy a Camaro, all of which is bad for GM. It is similar to the dilemma Porsche is having with the 911 and the Cayman right now.

My Mustang cost me $28,500 in August 2005 off the dealers lot in Stockton, CA, and I have every available option for the 05 model year. The only way mine would have cracked $30K is if it was a vert.
That is one point of reference. |

I only pray for the dollars/Euros exchange rate to reamin the same by 20009!!
$40k would only be €30k. I love exchange rates! |

Imagine the effects of inflation in 20009
As far as the Euro, I don't know about France, but here in Germany a €30k American car that isn't normally sold here would easily be taxed all the way up to €40-50k. Making it cost in the neighborhood of $60,000. Especially if you consider the taxes based on engine displacement, sales tax, importation tax, etc. Like I said, I don't know about France, but I would imagine it isn't too different than Germany. |

I just feel ( my opinion ) that the 400 HP will be the base V-8 and nicely loaded will go for somewhere in the 28 - 33 K price range. As for the GT500, the base Corvette beat the pants off of it due to the GT's weight. GM has been very good in the past to get the power to weight ratio where it should be. Personnally I think we will be very pleasently surprised at the final product. When Car and Driver compared the GTO with the Mustang, the GTO out performed it. It was the style of the GTO that did it in. The style of the Camaro.....need I say anymore?

I wonder how much we're talking for insurance rates though? They are going to have to make the new Camaros to where insurance won't be outrageous on them...

Which is why the smart GM is building a high performace V6 version. They want to sell them this go around. Not everyone can afford the big performance V8, so GM is building a high performance V6 that will beat the pants off of a high po V8 to save the average person a bunch of money on car insurance. I think the rates will stay about the same car for car. The biggest factors are age, location, and driver history (accidents and tickets). I don't think an 09 V8 Camaro with the same power will go up that much in insurance than my current 4th Gen.

I'd assume the insurance rates will be similar to what they were for the 4th Gen's when they were new. The insurance is probably one part of the equation of getting one I'm not worried about. My V6 '02 was only about $900-$1000 a year for full coverage. And that was 5 years ago. I'm older now, thus it should be slightly lower. I'm more concerned about the price of the car itself. I want to be able to afford a nicely equipped base V8.... |

True.. I have a V6 now and the only reason I have it is because they sold my Z28 a week before I went to look at it and pick it up
I love my car I have, I just wish it was a V8.I am definitely going to have a V8 in the new one... just probably not the highest ranked V8. I'll be graduating college in 2009 and I really hope GM doesn't overprice the Camaros But I think they learned their lesson!

I don't want a monster, just a powerful car that kills the competition. i'll be graduating in 2011, so I figure I'll save up and buy a all-the-kinks-worked-out 2010 V8 model. Z28 of course! |

I was actually thinking of waiting until 2011. It would make a lovely 30th birthday present. Seeing as this will be my first brand new car, and I plan on being cremated with it, I am buying an absolutely loaded coupe. If there is a Saleen or Roush that I like, then I'll pick that up. Either way I'm putting the investment in. As far as insurance goes, a Corvette is actually cheaper to insure than a F Body due to accident rates. My insurance isn't too bad right now. Trading a 2003 Grand Prix GT in for a '65 Mustang GT really helped out. It nearly cut my premium in half.
