Bit the bullet today and called Onstar. The guy offered me a $50 discount, but I think it was what they offer everybody in the email. Call USAA insurance. Turns out they stopped offering a discount for having Onstar. It was about $16 a year off, same as if I had Lo-Jack, which I don't and won't. No good deals, insurance a disappointment too.

My Onstar expires on 1/22/11, I just called them and the best they offered was $249.00 for the directions and connections package, so I told them that I still have a few days to mull it over. I would like to keep the Onstar, but really at that price it isn't worth it to me. I hope they call and make a better offer.

Just call them back and tell them that your friend (that's me ) got an offer for the safety plan for $149.00, and they gave him six months of directions free. Then he paid $50.00 for the rest of the year. That's 199.00 total which isn't too bad of a deal IMO.

It sucks our cars don't come with real nav. Other than that, we all have cell phones. What is the point of the service? Actually, most of our phones have nav.

I let my free year expire because I didn't feel like calling them up and haggling. And it's not worth $200 a year. (for the save & sound). Today I got a letter in the mail saying they'll let me join back up for $50 off, only $150. I'm leaning towards not bothering. $12 more per month on top of my car payment, on top of my insurance, on top of my gas. Meh. Then again, it's really nice knowing one red button can get you help in an emergency. Or in a crash, no red button needed.

My On-Star was due to expire in 11 days. So, I call to cancel, they put me on hold, came back with 110 off price, so I took it. I have one more year of my Directions and Connections for $189.

This is my 4th vehicle with On-Star. Let it lapse after the free year on all of them and never used it once. I can read a map, I just can't fold one.

I paid just a little more than that for the whole big package, because I whinned when I called to renew. This year I'll just get the safe and sound though because I have a smart phone now for nav. Though I need to tell you if it saves your life just once, which it did for me last spring when I was caught in a flood zone, it is worth whatever you have to pay for it!

LOL the same people who don't freak out when the battery dies in the remote key fob and they have to call On-Star to unlock the car, because they don't realize they can just put the key into the door lock. Always have a backup, because we all know electronic items can't fail...cant' fail...can't fail...can't fail

My car isn't a daily driver. My onstar expires in 2 weeks. I won't be paying.

If they'd let me buy a month at a time, I'd take advantage of that when I needed it. Can't see paying for a year when it never leaves the driveway during the winter.
