OnStar Pricing

My initial OnStar trial subscription is expiring, and I'm torn about renewing it. My wife, who drives the car the most wants to keep it, and its probably not a bad idea for her, if I can get a deal on it. Please post the price you paid and if you get an insurance discount for having it active. If you have a suggestion for a good rate, share that as well. Thanks!

it was 18+ a bit, or 28+ for directions as well. Just renewed. I like to feel all warm and fuzzy!

They have different plans.....what do you need it for? I mean, do you use if to get directions? as in use it as a voiced nav system? if not, just get the "SAFE AND SECURE" plan which is the cheepest and still is there in an emergency, or if in an accident it call you and the authorities. Your phones still work via bluetooth through the cars system, so thats not an issue. This is what I did when my ONE Year subscription ended.

When it came time to renew my 'Directions & Connections' plan, I told On Star that I wasn't interested in renewing the full plan and that I was just going to go with the 'Safe & Secure'. They then offered me a half price "special" on the full plan (they had offered my mom the exact same "special" a month earlier on her Buick).

I got a free year as well. I plan to keep the safe & sound package but just have no need for nav.

Just tell them you can't afford it, and you'll drop them for that reason. They will most likely give you a really good deal to stay. I currently pay about $13, and covers more than the usual $13 package.

They wouldn't deal with me when my 1-yr free service ended in late December. The Directions and Connections was nice, but not work $28+ p/month - so I opted for the Safe & sound at $199 for 12 months. So I'll buy me a nice Garmin with a vent mount and call it a day.

I let it laps and they came after me after a month or so. I believe I payed $70 for a year with nav instructions. They will low ball if you wait. I tend use the phone more than the Nav.

I was about to ask, are they willing to make deals.

My friend told me when his XM (non-gm car) was about to expire he called to cancel with the intention of buying at a deal. He said he was cancelling they asked him what they could do to keep him, I think he got like 5 years for 50% off. Basically it was totally worth it.

Anyone know how low they are willing to go, cause I am totally willing to renew for the right price.

My 2010 is the first vehicle I've ever owned with OnStar. I'm definitely going to keep mine active after reading this news story. This happened in Conway, AR...about 40 miles from me, but that's just a 30 minute drive down I-40. Too close for comfort. Glad OnStar was on this.
