Mine grinds on the 1-2 shift at high rpm. All other gears/rpm it shifts fine. I guess I need to find a mod friendly dealer to work on it.

Those of you talking about your clutch sticking to the floor when racing, this sounds like the classic example of the clutch fluid issue....not the trans.
Everyone here should consider the cheap and easy mod of having a seperate clutch fluid resivoir. I can change out my clutch fluid in about 10 min now. Great insurance mod IMO. GM should've given us a seperate resivoir like the do for the Corvette and GTO but the good news is you can easily add one yourself. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2868036

My car is going under the knife tomorrow for a complete trans swap out due to these notchy 2nd & 3rd gear problems! I'll report back on results in a couple days!

I'm in...OK from 1 to 2 but higher rmp shift to 3rd and it sometimes grinds and creeps me out.. like dragging fingernails across a blackboard....gonna take mine in to see what the dealer says...I have already been red flagged by the general...curious to see what they say about this.

Notchy 2 > 3 when cold. SLOW and deliberate shifting when warm minimizes the feel.
Does the installation of a Skip Shift Eliminator and a (LSR) Short Throw Shifter present a warranty (voiding) problem? Last edited by RiCorvette; 04-08-2011 at 11:03 AM. |

Update to post #31. Got the tranny replaced in Feb. and I've had the car out a couple times but the weather has kept me from really working it out. First impressions though are encouraging. 2nd gear seems flawless now and 3rd is still a little notchy. Once the trans is up to normal operating temp 3rd is better but not perfect. All other gears so far are fine. The really good part about my swap out is I no longer have to worry about my early build output shaft blowing up on me. The new trans has the new output shaft!
Another thing I noticed is that my aftermarket Hurst is now a lot quieter, less vibration and buzzing when accelerating! The GM rep said that my gears are still the cintered ones but the way 2nd feels I'm wondering if it really has the carbon blocking ring. I'll have a better review once I put some miles on it! |

man and I thought it was just me. If you get on it hard it is like the body twist and then shifting is tough. worst was clutch depressed and hard shift 1st to 2nd and it was grinding just as if clutch was not depressed.

Bringing this back...... Took mine in today, still under warranty (2015 with 37k), and the same response. "Nothing found, transmission shifts as it should" . 8 Years later from the original post, how many of you have had your transmission swapped out under warranty for this issue? I have the "notchy" shifting from 1-2 and 2-3, worse when cold.

Just took in my M6V6 2012. 1st has always been notchy, but lately going into 1st and 2nd or 1st to 2nd I've felt a slippage which shakes the whole car. 2nd - 6th no problems at all. only going from 1st to 2nd. Transmission place I took it to seems like a hole in the wall, but reviews state he's the best guy in the county, so we'll see. He says he thinks it's the clutch and heard about faulty clutches on my model. I've heard that from here on the forums as well. He said there is an upgraded clutch which has more hardened quality parts available, and it was quite pricey, but I went ahead and went for it because I can hold him to it if turns out badly since I'm paying him premium for it. If it finally removes the jankiness of 1st gear it will be worth every penny imo.
I did buy the car used at 30k, and it's at 90k now, but it's had this problem since I bought the car. I just figured maybe the first owner didn't know how to drive a manual and ruined it a bit, but after hearing everyone here I think it may have just been bad design. |
