Yet another update: Welding and sealing is complete. The car is back together body wise. Oddly, with the car sitting unloaded from the puller the rear end is sitting an inch over to the left. 3/4 jut on the left, 3/4 sucked in on the right. We know the center line is not the true center line, but it just doesn't feel right by eyeball. Even if all the measurements line up exactly and she's square on the rear. Ideas anyone? PHB? Trailing arms just tweaked a smidge?
Yet to go: - Finish fender repairs - Fill/sand Fender - Fill/sand Front bumper cover - Fill/sand hatch crack - Install/Align hatch - Repair spoiler - Repair donor door (small gouge at the bottom of the door) - Test donor door (motor/wiring, etc) - Align doors (both because the drivers was off from before the accident and I just found this out) - Replace right front spindle assembly (rather than just the knuckle/easier) - Replace right rear axle shaft - Reoil rear end - Final align on steering, suspension, rear axle, wheels. - Prime/sand paint - Reinstall.. everything behind the steering wheel. - Test and tune suspension/ride So, maybe push it back to around the end of June. Either way I'm content with waiting now. Hard part is done, and even in 3 colors she looks better than ever (have the primewells on and HOLY SHEET did I pull the right trigger). Oh, and I'm saving the cracked rim as a trophy. How many of you have done that? |

Probably never so much as scratched that WS6 either, I take it. Just a reminder that I want to keep around for when I have kids someday and they want to race and ask about the wreck.
I always did with my mom, but unfortunately she tossed her '69 base coupe emblems and steering wheel out a while back during a move. Still hates that she did it. All we have now is a single cracking polaroid of the car. Lost to a dump truck in the winter of 75 I believe. |

Update: She has two eyes now. Frame work is complete. All she needs is sealant, Weld sealant/filler, a bit of filler on the fender and bumper cover (gouges) and a lot of panel alignments.
Thing now is whether or not I can get my body guy to (once he sees that the axle is shoved over due to the panhard) give up on getting stock pieces and just go UMI non adjustable. Front spindle assembly being new or used is up in the air. THEN the whole interior has to go back in (speakers and some wiring too). Work slowed after some bimbo dropped off a CRV with a cracked rear quarter that wound up being made almost entirely of bondo and an L shaped bracket holding what was left of the rear quarter. Had chunks the size of an xbox controller come off that thing. What was supposed to be a 4 hour job.. now turned into 2-4 days including paint. So back up went the sign saying "No more work, overbooked. Kthxbai". ![]() Looking at probably 5th of July before I get it back. :facedesk: |

Actually.. no it's not. It's getting paint first, then it goes back in.
Order of STGD: 1) Suspension BS 2) Panel Fit 3) Fill (for some reason this overlaps with the above) 4) Prime 5) Sand 6) Paint 7) Interior install 8) Alignment 9) ??? 10) July 5th? |

Well that's after we find out what's clicking around in the ass of the car. That comes pretty much last when the car can be immobilized for an extended period of time. Body guy just wants to short cut it and dig up a used G80/GU6 rear (3.42 ratio traction control equipped locking rear).
Thing is that it's just another expense on top of replacing damn near every component aside from shocks, springs, and the swaybar to make sure the rear is centered. Already looking to shell out 400+ for a total UMI outfit minus the swaybar. That includes a panhard bar, trailing arms, and panhard relocation kit. Throw in the axle, and I'm almost in it a grand behind the back seats. In other news though, some interesting additions showed up on the shop doorstep that I'd thought would be a longshot. More will come when the paint's done. |
