Do you have a wide band you can moniter.
Can you elaborate on this? I don't want to hurt anything. From what I understand; the v6 flow rates are absolutely horrible in and out. Since I wasn't sure about this I asked numerous people ad they said the car won't take in more air than it wants regardless of number of filters even ram air. They mentioned it might just breath easier.

If I really drive like I'm trying to save fule my average mpg goes from it's usual 22.4 to a healthy 30.8. That said, I really have to drive like a miser.
Yes while testing I was accelerating at a moderate rate but not fast. I was driving more conservative than before. That being said, the numbers I mentioned pre-dual cone intake was from conservative driving.

I think it's great that your mileage has improved, but you really should be concerned about the possibility of running lean. I've got a big chevy grain truck with a 427 that burned pistons three seperate times before we found that the carb was running it lean. Got a new carburetor and new block the last time around. $5000 bill.

But i don't see how adding a second air filter would make it run lean. Perhaps the air flow is swirling as it enters the MAF and screwing things up?

Just thinking, it may still be in a safe range being that it's metered air going in.

I would try to find a wideband gauge to moniter things for a little while though, at least if nothing else, throw it on the dyno and have them do a couple pulls to check it out.

would have to hear something go wrong.
Good luck.

This might be silly, but wouldn't the 02 sensors pick up on the lean fuel mixture and compensate? Just an idea......

You might want to consider getting something like an UltraGauge to monitor your fuel trims. It's relatively cheap and a good way to make sure you aren't running super lean.

http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/index.htm

You're probably running in the upper negative teens to low 20% range for your long term fuel trims, which isn't so good in the long term. A stock V6 airbox will usually have LTFT reading from -1% to 4%. Chances are good that the Y-pipe is actually messing with the MAF readings and meter MHz scaling. While the increased MPG is a nice thing, chances are you aren't helping prolong the life of your engine.

If everything is working properly, I don't think you can run lean with a direct injection engine. If it's lean, you'd get a check engine light PDQ. Could be wrong about that but I doubt it.

The intake set up is robbing you almost .6 seconds on your 1/4 and draining horse power. Youre just sucking in warm air without a heat shield.

I built my own intake for a bet, you can find the thread under my posts if you want. my set up was similar to yours.

I ran 14.9, 15.1, 14.8 with my set up on an all stock car. Then I took my custom intake off and put the stock airbox back on that I had brought with me. Right after I made a pass and ran a 14.3, with DA correction 14.1.

If you notice the snorkel on the stock intake, thats where its sucking in cold air from the outside. If the filter is sucking air from the area around the washer bottle its getting too much warm air.

The fact that I ran almost a full second slower with this type of set up shows how much it leans the car out and how bad it is. For an intake alone to slow you up that much there is some seriously bad stuff going on.

My advice, and I hate to be a downer too, that second filter has to go. You then need to build a heat shield.

Dark may have a point. Does the car still feel the same power to you? Maybe it is robbing your power and in turn you are driving slower and getting better MPG. We're not hating on you but we would need to understand what is going on and that it isnt going to hurt the engine or the performance of the car.
