Hmmmmmm......16 years old with over 425 hp? Are you paying the insurance premiums? Are you parents paying it? All it takes is one or two tickets and your rates will go thru the roof, and then you or your parents won't be paying it anymore. It will be too expensive. I don't know what a gallon of gas is costing you in Boston, but it costs me about 62 bucks to fill up a tank and that will last me about a week. The V6 is capable of getting 30 mpg, around 400 miles to the tank.

I would say get the V6, its plenty fast, you will save money on gas and insurance. And the difference in the money saved you can spend on mods. Ie, tinted windows $150, exhaust $800, intake $300, the list goes on and on.

Addressing some of the questions.

1. I will be added to my parents insurance, so the cost won't be that high for the V8. Opposed to my own policy.

2. I talked to my neighbor and he was telling me that Camaro's were always about power and the V8. He said it doesn't seem right to get the V6. That was until I told him it had 305 HP. Then he was speechless and changed the topic to an Audi.....

3. I have come to the conclusion that I'm spoiled when it comes to leather seats, and other things. Both of my parents cars have them and I can easily live with out it.

4. I feel like a used 1SS is good with about 25-35k miles.

5. I have been getting some manual transmission tutorials from that same neighbor in his 63 Corvette Stingray so I may be able to get the manual on the SS.

6. As for gas, I will be paying for that. I do not have to many other expenses at the moment or the for the near future. I also use my local grocery store card at Irving gas stations and save some good $ on each gallon.

It sounds like you and your parents are doing a great job researching all the things you need to consider - insurance, gas, etc... I think you should get whatever makes you happy and meets your parents list of requirements (price?). You'll have a GREAT car no matter what!

From what I am reading you don't seem to be worried much about insurance, gas, or the price of the car. I bought a New 2011 1LT/RS at 17 last year and I do have regrets even though I love my car, I think a Slightly Used 2011 2SS/RS would be the way to go. Trust me get the 2SS not the 1SS it's not much more and you will regret it down the road. I will be upgrading to a 2SS for Graduation next year, so take it from me, don't settle even if you have to save up and wait a little while. Every car is dangerous, just be responsible and don't listen to anything your friends say or try to tempt you into doing something you know isn't smart.

IMO if it were me, i would get the SS. that being said, it's not me. and me is a 28 year old driver that sees too many inexperienced drivers on the road all the time, whether that be a girl putting on her makeup, someone texting, or a kid with a car too fast. there was an article out recently saying that 1 in every 5 people on the road would fail a driving test right now at this point in time.

i'm not saying you are any of the above, i don't know you. but just following the unfortunately fortunate stereotype that young drivers are some of the most dangerous, i think you should stick with the v6 and less power for your own and others' safety.

Good Luck getting a test drive at Quirk... I'm 40 and they wouldn't let me test drive one the day before I bought mine. That may have cost them a sale. Of course that was back in 2009... they weren't budging on prices then either. I ended up going to Balise of Warwick and got a test drive AND a great deal. I'd suggest the V6 also... I was planning on getting the SS until I drove a manual V6. They have plenty of power, are good on gas, and the insurance won't kill you as a young driver.

Went to Quirk today!

Test drove a Camaro!!!!!!!!!

It was a base v6. I don't care about any of the bells and whistles. Holy crap was that car fast. 25 grand too. The salesmen tried so hard to be my friend but, I know their games.

I loved driving it. I drove it by myself too. He just tossed the keys and said be careful

I think the V6 is a good start for a Teenager. Heck, I had a V6 Mustang as my first car (when they were sloooooooooooooooooooooww) and it was still a blast. I modded it and made it my own, eventually putting a 100 shot on it when I was 19. The new V6 Camaro is as fast as LT1's and nothing to laugh at for sure. You'll definitely have the best car among your friends as well.

My parents have told me they will be getting a new car soon for me. I want to save them as much money as possible. They both like the new Camaro. I LOVE the Camaro.

My "dilema" do I purchase a v6 RS package new? Or go the SS route used?

I see some great SS used with low miles and the RS package locally!

Is the SS too much? I don't like to speed by the way. I tried it in my neighbors vette stingray, I just don't like speeding.

Also, are the cloth seats easy to stain?

Thanks for reading and any input is really really appreciated.

EDIT: I am no grandma on the road either! I'm just not into that whole 100mph cris cross through the lanes kind of person. I love being thrown into the seat, but that has more to do with the torque.
What do you mean you don't like speed?!! Are you sure you're 16?

If you're not in need of the extra speed that the SS provides then go the V6 route. Get the loaded V6 with HUD and RS package and have a bad@$$ looking car but save the gas sine you aren't planning on getting on it.

This doesn't sound very true, I've never seen a Dealer let someone test drive a car without a Salesman inside, let alone a Kid with only a Permit, but I guess it's different everywhere .

Honestly, I didn't think I needed the bells and whistles either and It's not a matter of need, obviously money isn't an issue, so if you get the car at least get a 2LT/RS or you will regret it trust me been there, done that.

im 16 and my parents got my a v6 for my first car and i just love it. I have the cloth seats and they do not stain easily at all. To me the v6 is plenty of power but is still good on fuel. I love the look the rs package adds with the headlights and the rims but if the v8 is what you want go for it. Nobody can make the decision but you. I have no regrets about getting the v6 though. This car with any engine is a great car and just enjoy whatever you get and be thankful that your parents are so generous because i know i am.
