Now, with the battery in the trunk, will I still have room for my two trunk monkeys?

You know the old saying, "It's better to have two trunk monkeys instead of one."

The only reason the battery is in the trunk is to distribute the weight evenly.

My Mini Cooper S had the battery in the trunk....easier to access and helps weight distribution!

that ain't the only reason. it may have been one of the bigger factors, but when asking about this months ago, they also mentioned OnStar being one of the reasons. think about it... if you smash the front end and disconnect the battery (or puncture/rupture it), what's gonna supply power to alert the EMTs? rear-end collisions are typically less traumatic to passengers than front-end, so statistically, there's a better chance of someone being coherent enough to make a call if a rear crash kills the battery.

also, the reduced heat and elemental exposure help prolong the life of the battery.
it's also much easier to access in the trunk.

The benefits you mention are secondary, the primary reason is to distribute the weight evenly.

note 'primary' reason... not 'only' reason

Well heres my question.

They are most likely using lead-acid batteries. Are they sealed?

If not, I know the first mod I'm doing starts with O and ends with ptima.

I was simply stating there are just battery leads and posts.... no battery. That was my only point....

I wouldn't even say it's the primary reason.

ALL cobalts have it in the trunk. An LS Cobalt is in no way, shape, or form a performance car. Why would GM engineer the whole model line (of which SS models represent the vast minority) with a rear mounted battery if weight distribution was their PRIMARY goal? This is a trend that is occurring along many GM products. Everyone else has said it, the benefits are manifold: protection from elements, ease of access, weight distribution, heat protection, more reliable power supply in the event of a crash, etc etc etc. I would put those last two, heat protection and crash reliability as the most primary of the reasons. weight distribution is just a bonus, ancillary benefit. Remember this car is Zeta, so it was most likely a done deal from the get-go.

Just needs to be inspected every month for swelling. It's probably a maint free so the indicator lens needs to be looked at as well.

Otherwise it's a plus. There are stereo modders that go thru hell to add 2nd battery in cabin.

Haven't you been paying attention? A shunt should also be there!

An additional secondary benefit: More room under the hood for engine stuff.

So nobody knows whether or not the battery is sealed?
