Regardless.. they don't want controversy and he represented them so.... he gets what he got...
Thats the way it is in every business.. no one wants negative publicity and he opened it up so they did what they did..

What's really stupid is someone asking a celebrity for their political opinion and them actually answering it is even more dumb to a career

regardless I'm glad he's gone, I couldn't stand the song and he has been washed up singing the same thing for years... two hit pony that cant really even sing.. thank god he's gone !
I want football not a stupid drawn out same line song when I turn the game on....

What kills me even more are the complete tools that think this is a first amendment right violation. Thats our schools in action I guess.. Its pathetic that the avg person has no clue what our bill of rights are and what they mean.

freedom of speech is protection against the govt persecution.. NOT ESPN OR ABC.... or any other private organization/entity.. the meaning has not got lost, you never new it in the first place apparently.. I don't mean to be so harsh either but so many people don't have a clue about freedom of speech it really really just ticks me off its the first and most simple to understand

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances

None of that protects Hank from being canned
I appreciate your serious underestimation of my comprehension skills. But I do agree that ESPN's MNF program needed a new theme song anyway. I mean, Hank's has been around since the late 80's. It's time for an upgrade.

I know what the First Amendment protects.

I was not claiming that Hank's First Amendment rights were violated. But I agree, I suppose I was a bit vague with my reference.

My point is this. ESPN is owned by ABC. I imagine the decision to pull Hank's song from MNF came from the top brass at ABC, and not so much from the folks who run ESPN or MNF. ABC's news wing has substantial influence on the opinions of the population.

So, if you run a news agency that only exists because the government does not have the power to suppress your opinions, then how hypocritical is it to end a contract with someone who is merely expressing their opinion?

I always thought a news agency's purpose was to stand up for everyone's right to speak their minds and have open dialogue. But it's pretty clear that the majority of today's news agencies are only here to push their agenda and promote their favorite political figure.

Now, I'm in no way saying that Hank's comments were okay. While it's clear to any sane American that he was not saying that Obama is Hitler, he could have made his point just as easily without bringing Hitler into it.

But on the flip side, I think it's atrocious reporting that the headlines immediately claimed that Hank was comparing Obama to Hitler. In the context of his statements, the comparison he was making was the absurdity of the golf pairing. He was not equating anyone to anyone else. But if he were, what if he was comparing Boehner to Hitler and Obama to Netanyahu?
