when you come to a stop it will downshift into "2" you have to manually go into "1" if you want to start from there.

it will not downshift in tap-shift mode unless you drop below around 650 rpm in any given gear to prevent stalling..

but it will never put you back into "D" or "S" you have to do it, either by moving the gear shift to "D" then back to "M" or pressing and holding the upshift button for 5 seconds which puts it back into Sport mode.

doesn't bother me either, I've had it on my last 3 cars, it doesn't improve much, I believe it is a 9% over non-AFM cars, if anything it is nothing more than a technological way for GM to pass the EPA and CAFE requirements, and avoid the Gas Guzzler Tax.

says the man with stock exhaust. if you have any type of altered exhaust the AFM will bother the sh*t out of you. (intended light-heartedly)

This is true. I have a Corsa exhaust and I can feel the engine shift to 4 cylinders but there is no drone from the exhaust.

Always wondered why they just never put an eco button
to pass for the cafe and gas guzzler tax and we would
never have this problem to begin with

I have Flowmasters and doesn't bother me.. I can hear it kicking in and out, but it doesn't bother me and I drive a convertible, and the top is down most of the time.

but as I said, had it on 3 vehicles, all with cat or axel back systems and it's never phased me.

I have headers on the way so im going to tune the AFM out anyway. I will see what the difference is because I really dont see a problem with it now.

all are useless features IMO.. if you slow down, don't jack rabbit between lights and drive like a respectable person and not rice rocket ronny then you can achieve the same results with out without AFM or an ECO buttom.

Do this and keep your RPMs up. It will keep the AFM at bay for the most part. You can't really deactivate it without tuning.

Dave: Can AFM be turned off in an auto, 2013 Camaro 2SS by shifting into paddle shift mode or any other way...

Neskens D: If you are in paddle mode or manual shifting the AFM system is automatically deactivated. In automatic the system act independently of the drivers input. Its activated by determining the vehicle needs horse power and torque. When on the highway and cruising the engine will use its cylinders as needed. You cannot activate nor deactivate the system on your own.

Dave: But, if I'm in manual mode, it will stay off?

Neskens D: The 2 SS uses both Active Fuel Management and sequential fuel injection. When in manual you will be using the sequential fuel injection.

Dave: Ok. Sorry but I just want to be clear. Whether I am driving in a neighbourhood or cruising at 100km/h on the highway, as long as I stay in manual mode, the AFM will stay deactivated?

Neskens D: Yes your understanding of the system is correct, at low speed or cruising if you are using the manual system, your active fuel management will not engage. Allowing you to use all the power you would like to get out of car.

Dave: Thanks so much for clarifying.

I purposely asked a few times to make sure I was reading it right...
Wrong. The AFM will activate less frequently (especially if you wind it out a bit more before shifts) but M mode doesn't "deactivate" the AFM.

Not sure if something has changed on the 13's (or I'm just oblivious to it) but I cannot tell when and if AFM kicks in. I drive 100% in sport mode (not tap) and I can never hear the exhaust change.

If your exhaust is stock, you won't hear it.
