As soon as the odometer clicks 1000 I am taking my car to my shop and having them delete the mufflers. I have always wondered why LM's were so expensive for what they were, figured you were paying for a name and hopefully a product that would bolt right up w/o any fab work. I think the exhaust companies are going to have to come up with something special or just drop their prices because this little $200 mod is gonna eat their lunch. I know I'm gonna take the money saved and get a CAI and SSK.

I got my mufflers dropped out today. The shop took the tips off the stock exhaust and welded them to the pipes. The sound is INCREDIBLE. There is NO DRONE on the highway, and that was my biggest concern. The popping comes when slowing and the rpm's drop to around 2.5k, and it is a breathtaking sound. With the windows up, the exhaust is barely noticeable, though you can still hear the popping. If you have the radio on, you'll hear no difference from stock. Windows down, it's a bit louder, but sounds great. It isn't too loud, so don't worry about that. It's the best $120 I have ever spent in my life. I only had 250 miles on mine by the way. I don't regret this for a second, and am extremely pleased with the results.

Muffler delete is illegal in PA. :( There's got to be a muffler that does NOTHING out there.

Help me out, I have the L99 and I have seen photo's of stock exaust removed with no resinators, do the autmatic and manual cars have different exaust's?

Went to see my muffler shop yesterday. I was quoted $150.00 to do the muffler delete. I was told that my warranty would be void, but I believe this is only for the muffler !? Can someone confirm this for me ?

See: SLP Loudmouth. I had the Loudmouth on my 02 z28...it was basically a "tuning tube" which I believe technically makes it a muffling device and therefore technically legal. You could tap the tuning tube and it would ring like a bell, and the rest of the pipe was like a "clunk" when you tapped on it. I loved the sound of the LM until I got my headers then it was raspy and a little too loud. Then I went with the Loudmouth II muffler and it sounded great.

The Loudmouth II is still a straight through design but has ceramic filler around the flowpath and gives it a good aggressive, deep tone with plenty o' volume. I don't see how PA could say that it is not a muffler because it is a straight through type of muffler design. It just isn't a baffled setup like stock.

So for now, I'm going to go with the muffler delete, and if I don't like it, I'll be putting the Loudmouth II in....

Get the Loudmouth 2, it's real deep and sweet sounding without drone. Then later down the road when you add a set of long tubes it will sound amazing

Warranty will still be valid as long as you dont touch the cats or emmissions items. $150 is not bad if the pipe is T-304 stainless with T-304 stainless tips

You could actually show them the factory resinators which are still in place about middle ways up and call that the mufflers. Its basically a glass pac muffler. This is by far the best mod for the money out there. You want regret it abit.

Has anyone thought about fabbing a custom cat-back system? How much more could that be from an axle-back system?

was gonna go to the muffler shop this weekend to see how much it would be. also has anyone tried deleteing the stock mufflers and just doing an axle back 3" all the way out with no mufflers. not sure how that would make it sound.

I know the L99 has a long resonator in the middle with two pipes in and two pipes out. I had my car on the hoist -- but I have not seen an LS3 underside, but apparently they have something similar. Does anyone know if its the same?

I know the LS3 sounds a lot different than an L99 --- I was parked next to one and we compared sound --- unfortunately at the time we didn't try to look under to compare resonators. We figured it was due to the different cams, compression ratio, etc.

Sounds like the muffler delete is the way I want to go (possibly Magnaflow's Competition Axle-back which is a delete with 5" tips??).

THANKS to all you guys who reported back in detail -- it's helpful feedback.
