There is a thread around here somewhere from when IdealG did his cam install. I think you might be able to find some pics of how he ground down his timing cover. It's a good read in general.

Found it.

Congrats on taking the leap hapisok. You've got plenty of help around here when you need it.

so here is my cam build list:

FTI LSX Custom Camshaft & Valvetrain Package
- 3 bolt cam 22X/23X 114
- lunati dual valve spring kit 73925K1
- lunati pushrod 5/16 x 7.4
melling oil pump
comp cams trunion upgrade 13702-kit
cloyes timing chain set w/ 3 bolt timing gear and IWIS chain 9-3658TX3Z
ARP LSx balancer bolt kit
ARP LSx cam shaft bolts
ARP LSx cam plate bolt
Cloyes LS2 belt tensioner 9-5491
gasket kit
-water pump
-front main seal

decided against the UD pulley at this time...no reason in particular. parts should start showing up tomorrow and hopefully begin the install this weekend and have it completed by sometime next week.

thanks for all the help so far, its been appreciated.

There are a couple tools that you can add to that list probably. You might look into a spring compressor tool and a dial for checking PTV clearance. You'll also want some 5/16" dowels for holding the lifters up while you swap out the cam. I think there is a trunion press tool, but a socket would probably work too.

You also forgot to put beer on the list

:EDIT:

Maybe a harmonic balancer installer as an Autozone rental too... you don't want to end up like this poor soul!

fo sho! got the comp cam valve spring tool and summit timing wheel. i've thought about the dial for checking PTV as there are other options available, just haven't made that decision yet. but need to sooner than later. and thanks for the reminder on the dowels. i still have to get my shopping list together, fluid replacement and all that stuffs before i start

beer is DEFINITELY gonna be on tap...decisions decisions. 1554, Rogue dead guy ale, golden monkey, siberian night...but should probably stick to something closer to a 5% vs +10%. definitely gonna throw some back afterward.

Nice. I recommend some stone levitation and anchor steam too. Beer nerds always succeed!

My last brew was an anchor steam clone.

$40 grain bill for 5.5 gallons of beer....

We switched to a cash system here in the household a couple months ago. It's amazing how much money I was (still am... it's better though) blowing on $8 six packs.

Brew + car project is perfect. There are is a 1 hour wait during mash and a 1 hour wait during boil. Brewing and modding something is damn near the best way you can spend a day.

BEER! I do love me some beer. Hapisok struck a chord there with his short list of beers. I try to convert people to brewing like I try to commit people to working on their cars and buying american!

:EDIT:

That's called wort... to answer your question.

You do know your brewery pot and thermometer were made in Mexico, don't you.

Haha. The thermometer was probably chinese, but the 15 gallon brew pot is all american. It still wipes to a sheen with a sponge.
