Man I'm contemplating an SS and still want one. If I didn't have as many bills as I did I'd be fine with paying the maintenance, but then again coming from the truck I had before and a $35 oil change every 5,000 miles and changing tires every 75,000 miles was nice

I don't understand how a V8 Camaro is much more maintenance than a V6 Camaro? I at least don't notice anymore or any less maintenance between my V8 truck and V6 car. Modern day vehicles are pretty sound and solid IMO. I can see a point about gas usage which my V6 car seems twice as good as my V8 truck, but what's the real difference in maintenance? I understand the V8 takes full synthetic (which I choose to use in my V6 anyway) but that shouldn't even be a deal breaker to not get a V8 because the price of motor oil is negligible to the price of even a baseline Camaro IMO. In other words, if you can't afford the difference in oil between the V6 and V8 Camaro you really can't even afford a baseline V6 Camaro "IMO". I don't see the maintenance being a real argument for not choosing a V8.

It's weird but I didn't care for the sound of the V6 at first but I guess I've gotten used to it because I don't mind or notice it anymore (and call me crazy but I've actually started to like the little growl of it in the midrange rpm from within the cabin). Drove my father in my truck yesterday (V8 with side pipes) to go pick up his stereo speakers and notice it as a 'rumbly drone' and nothing more and maybe a little annoying now that I'm not used to driving it anymore. I guess it's about being what you're used too. For example, when motocross bikes switched over to 4-stroke from 2-stroke I hated them and hated the sound of a 4-stroke. But now that I've been around and owned them, it's the opposite for me now - I now like the 4-stroke sound and think the "whiney" old 2-stroke sounds annoying, heh. I'm sure the old schooler muscle car guys just aint' going to ever accept the sound of anything other than the V8 they're accustomed to, but as an owner of many V8's I just don't mind the sound difference anymore. Hell, the ego thing of saying I have or don't have a V8 doesn't even bother me anymore. My lil 2011 V6 Camaro is absolutely my favorite vehicle I've ever owned and I've owned A LOT of V8's and still own a supercharged V8....

I meant more along the lines of tires burning out quicker, from what I've heard, and the full synthetic requirement, as well as premium gas. And as far as a truck was, the gas in my V8 was higher because it burnt out quicker, but the tires had to be changed every 75,000 miles as opposed to every 25-30,000. If you even remotely used that as a DD you're looking at an extra 1000+ each year for tires possibly, for my truck I think a set of tires was around 450-500...

Either way, I know i'ts not a reason not to buy a V8.

I owned 2 v6 fbodies before my SS. Both times they were great cars, but I was always wanting for the power of the 8. I'm finally satisfied.
