It's not just these days, I had the same kind of thing happen to my then new Z/28 in 1969. I parked way away from anybody else at a shopping center (no cars within 200 feet of me in any direction), as I came out of Sears I see someone is parked right next to me, I'm walking across the parking lot, they get out and hit my driver's door, I yell at them to come back and give me their insurance info, they turn and look at me but keep going and go in to the store. So I decided to give my tire iron a workout on their car. There have always been plenty of idiots around that have no respect for other people's property. And while I should have called the police back then, being a young twenty years old and a little foolish, I decided on instant revenge. I would handle it a lot differently today.

I've seen that option also, thats when you walk up to the car turn around and start footdinging the whole side.

I can relate. Back in the early 80's I had an Audi a lady hit and run, a witness got a partial plate number, it took 1 month to track her down. Immediately after fresh body work I was having breakfast at a local restaurant, as I had a window view of my car a welfare recipent was parallel parking in front of mine he must have had a bad neck as he backed up he would stop only after hitting my bumper, this happened 3 backup's. I left the restaurant and kicked in his driver door, to this day I regret my actions, he probably had a legimate health problem and I'm embarassed about my uncontrolable temper.

That's the point. Haven't you noticed the dumbing down? Fifteen to twenty year-old former crack-babies are among us functioning as best they can. (poorly and that explains the explosive sale of 'hoodies') Really affluent folks're so disgusted, some have cause but snobbery does exist too, that they keep strictly to themselves never mixing with the riff-raff at the bottom of the food-chain. The rest of us, those sentient enough to wish for or want for better, that have to be out there in the world, waiting at red-lights, dodging shopping-carts in parking lots, waiting in line at convenience stores and generally navigating the jungle which modern society has become must deal with these types of events day in and day out.

I've taught my kids that no matter how big a piece of crap a car is it still cost a lot of money to repair or replace. There is never a reason to touch someones car. I don't even let the kids open. At doors on windy days. I open the door for them.

Door dings are no acciDENT, just no respect for other peoples property. When I bought my 02 Harley Davidson truck me and my family lived in an apartment for 6 months while our house was being built . I parked my truck on the other side of the parking lot where no one else parked, so I thought. Came out one morning and sure as shit had a scuff about 12 inchs long down the driver door. I new exactly that it was a 80s ford pickup, so after I got it buffed out I parked side ways. I didn't care who I pissed off after that. Then another parked his red 2001 Z28 by mine because he new what I was doing it for and felt the same way. When I get out or my wife or kids get out off our car I always put my hand on the edge of the door if I think it will hit another car.

was she atleast good lookin?

this kind of stuff sucks. I was parked on the phone in a spot in my 2005 Envoy last week and this guy (300+ lbs) opens the door so hard that my suv actually shakes, of course I get out and there is a 1/2 in vertical dent with white paint in the rear right quarter panel (the other car was a lincoln towncar).

On a seperate note, has anyone noticed that generally parking spaces seem to be getting narrower? Or is it the cars are just getting bigger? I just seem to remember parking spots bigger when I was younger.

In most cases, I would suspect that door ding incidents are accidents. "Accident" only means that the end result was not intentional. The person who causes the harm is still RESPONSIBLE...a word that appears to have lost much of its meaning to many individuals. Most people seem to think that just because something was an accident that no one is to blame...wrong!

I have thought about getting those door ding preventers. The problem is that not all car/truck doors are going to open into the same spot. Seems like the only way not to get a door ding is not to park your car for any length of time. Or, you could buy a motorcycle...don't see many doors opening far enough to clip a bike.

I might get these and throw them under my seat. There's no reason that I should have to do this because people are supposed to learn from a young age to respect other people's property. Obviously, I will be buying these removable door magnets because there is no guarantee that anyone will show my Camaro any respect.
