Just Wondering? How do you get around the fact that the car-fax will now state issues on this serial number? Sounds like the insurance co. decided that their first loss was their best loss. Old auto body shop trick, have the insurance co. come down, don't make a pig of yourself, call for re-inspection after you get the car apart. Obviously this insurance co has seen this trick before. Good luck with this.

Avis cars...

They turn them over to the insurance company after any damage...leaving it up to the insurance co. to liquidate them (vs. fix them theirselves).

Since they have rejected my initial offer, and are mulling my second re-offer (same amount), this project is in limbo at this time.

Will advise.

To the OP, Carfax presently shows clean.

I have assumed that it will not stay that way after insurance settlement gets posted, but regardless, if it doesn't update, I'll be doing all the mechanical and fascia re-installation work myself, so no body shop will be logging it...I'd just be contracting a shop to paint it loose for me.

I understand, the CarFAX could be why it sells for significantly less than a comparable new one off the lot around MSRP, or even $1k off MSRP.

Anything over the ~$22k (conservative) cost when we sell is gravy, making this potentially the cheapest 1LT on the planet, provided we fix and sell in 3Q 2009 while the current supply/demand situation exists.

Even if we just break even, the work will be interesting (again, provided the unibody is straight - otherwise it is a non-starter).
