well my point being the gas mileage didnt change until i put the CAI on. It was getting a steady 17mpg for a year or 12k. Put that thing on and dropped down to 13,had it on for 3-4 months took it off, and gained 2 back within weeks. cant tell me the CAI had nothing to do with it. Truck is serviced regularly, no codes, etc. I dont know other people on her are saying it happens so it cant be a fluke. to me gaining .6 or 1mpg better can that really be attributed to CAI's?? I dont know nothing against you just giving my experience.

There is NO WAY I would buy a CAI for over $150. I mean honestly its just retarded to pay that much for one. You can build them yourself for that kind of dough.
For my numbers I used over a month of driving to kind of even it out. I got 2 MPG better in my Grand Am and that added up to about a gallon every fill up. So at $3 a gallon and filling up every week that is $156 a year. Doesnt sound like much but its enough. Ive got .6 to 1 MPG better with the lid on my LS1. Again doesnt sound like much but when you are putting in premium it adds up. |

it probably depends on the car. I agree it adds up, for a 300 dollar system saving gas is irrelvant seeing that it will take many years to recoup that cost.

OP (and anybody else)...don't forget to reset your average MPG counter back to 0 on your next tank (and every tank if you are going to use it). Must do that to get more accurate reading. You will probably be surprised that resetting is all you need to do to get a correct reading.
Also, may I suggest you check your mileage the old fashioned way to see just how close your computer is calculating mileage. Coming from a programming background, just because it is a computer does not automatically mean it is correct. Remember, Humans wrote the code. I suspect your computer calcs are fine and just needed to be reset to 0 to properly measure the mileage. JMHO. Good luck.

Not really, when you get the proper ECM/TCM tune done with the CAI. Here's a link for 3 different CAI's & OTR's with tunes..... http://www.forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?t=6125 All done on 6.2 liter engines..... either L99 or LS3's ...
