That bumper is fixable ,I do it all the time at work however the lower textured valance panel would need to be replaced, this is a easy fix.

You pay for insurance, Let them be the ones to take care of getting your car back to normal. They are the ones to go after the other persons insurance, I know that I would rather have them do the fighting for me, They have legal teams that do just this type of stuff. That's what we pay insurance for. For them to make it right, And handle all the grief that comes with it, so we don't have to.
Just my thoughts.

I hope it all works out well for you and your back to enjoying your baby.
Not really. Maybe that's what you have to do for California. I was living in Georgia at the time. (same state as the op) For me i got the police report, their insurance totally covered the damage to my car. I have a guarantee from the body shop that did the work. My car looks good as new. I had way more extensive damage than the op's car. When i called my insurance the next day (2nd call to them regarding my accident) they said i didn't have to call them unless i needed them to get involved. He said unless they are getting involved they can't do anything for me. If at some point in getting my car fixed and the other insurance didn't fix my car or dragged their feet, yes i can get my insurance involved. Now it is reported on my insurance and has been following me. This is just my experience from what happened to my car like the op's similar accident. Do what you want with your insurance company and good luck.

That royally sucks. I've had similar things. It's almost a worse feeling when it's not a lot of damage, because you figure, it was so avoidable.

Could be worse though. Looks like no metal damage.

And yes, always let insurance know. Long story short, I got T-boned at 40 mph by a van that didn't stop for a posted stop sign. I was driving my 1 of 3459 1970 convertible. I tried to be a nice guy and didn't go to insurance (at first). I was even hurt. The other driver was a preacher (no joke) and he tried to screw me over.

It's hard to see cause of the blurriness of the pics but it looks like you have a crack in the corner of the fascia. Look at where the brown "leaf" is and go up to where the fascia becomes horizontal. If it is cracked, push for a replacement and not a repair. Cracks will always be the weak point and will eventually start to show through the new paint.

The crack will not be the weakest point if repaired properly the bumper will be like new and the repair will be undetectable. And it will NOT show thru the paint.

In Massachusetts, If I have a car accident and there's no cop on the scene, if I don't tell my insurance company and the other guy doesn't tell his, who is reporting it to the state?

Good advice form all…
You did the right thing…
I was involved in a wreck back in 2001. Not my fault, my insurance totaled my ride (76 vette) paid for a rental for me and wrote me a check Tuesday for a Friday accident.
My insurance never went up.

ROFL! That isn't a leaf, it is a piece of her blinker light! But you are right, there is a physical crack like a starburst there. I also noticed my exhaust pipe got shoved up into the rear end and the parking sensor is barely staying in place on the bumper. Yo can push the circle in. I'll try to get some better pics later.

I spoke with my insurance company and discussed a plan of action. Tomorrow, I'm going to try and get an adjuster from MY company to come look at it and lock in the damages. That way, if I ever need to use my company, they will already know what they are working with instead of waiting for a month. Should I get estimates form 3rd party body shops? How does the repair process work? Do they choose a shop?
