Whatever, still a good lesson learned for future reference.
There were quite a few other tire tracks following your same path off the track....not sure what that means, but something seems to be up with that part of the track...dunno....

I've run R888s at Fontana and Spring Mountain in very hot weather....have yet to have the rear wash-out on me....Perhaps not pushing it to that "limit" yet.....or just lucky so far....lol....

When you lose traction running hard, bad things can happen. Glad to hear you didn't do a lot of damage.

Speaking of ambient temp, how did the engine's temps hold up?

Oil temps of 275 to 285 degrees. I spiked higher when I was trying to run the A/C and hold revs in a couple of places on track. Shifting up earlier made that go away.

Coolant temps of 240 to to 250 degrees, if memory serves.

Brakes? No problem whatsoever.

Tires? Controlling pressures was very difficult. I believe track temps were over 150 degrees. How hot was it? The new pavement started coming apart in several areas.

Essentially, the track broke before the Z/28 did...

Really awesome to see you guys out there with the cars! A spin happens to all of us and if it doesn't that means you have plenty left on the table..... which is OK to be honest since in the end its about having fun and driving back home in once pc. I span out in the past so bad at some tracks that one the way home I would ask my self what in the world I was doing (one side of track to the other, no joke). It's all about learning in the end, when you learn to walk you will fall a few times.

Any pictures of tire wear? Also, did you guys have to mod the hood etc. to get better powertrain cooling (remove the drain pan from hood vent?) and did you run more water than coolant etc.?

Finally, how many laps a session did you guys run and how much fuel (quarter, half tank) did you guys use per session?

I suspect we'll be seeing one another at other track days. I have a friend with a ZL1 but haven't gotten him out to the track yet. Maybe this Fall. Here's a photo my son took of Z by turn 7@TH. I have a couple of others of the aftermath if you want me to post them.

I'm the owner of www.bossmustangsonline.com and www.gt350mustangs.com and we had 8 Bosses out that day. We should do a joint track day sometime.

Welcome to C5. Believe we may have met at Eurosunday at Tracklogic a few months ago. Joint track day sounds great.

Moving in for the pass of course, lol

It's not often that I get to hang out with both my Camaro and Viper buds in the same venue. Hats off to Zfatuated and brt3 for driving these beautiful Z/28s the way they were meant to be driven! Reminds me of when I first tracked my Viper. No plates yet, just 3 weeks new and I went sideways off of the track at turn 7 of Thunderhill. I shook it off and went back out there and had a blast.

Brian (CrystalRedTintCoat) and my friend Rich in his Snake Skin Green Viper ACR rented a house with me nearby. Great to meet Zfat, Brt, the other Todd (Nor Cal ZL1), Kyle (Rornis3), and to see Mark again (Markgws6). There were about the same number of Camaros as Vipers out there.

If anyone's curious, here is one of my laps when I had a wide open track in front of me. Looking forward to the next outing!

Welcome Rick! I would enjoy having a pack of Mustangs and Camaros out there, sounds like fun. Let this serve as motivation for other folks to come out to the track and see what it's all about. Hosts such as HOD (Hooked on Driving) for example offer newbie instruction to get you launched right. You leave your ego at the gate, hang around with other car guys, and drive your car on a race track! How freakin cool is that?

Pretty sure he knows how to drive. I've done the exact same in 3 different GM cars, 4th gen, Z06, and C5. But you can't always just stomp on it if there is too much lateral g's or rotational inertia happening. You ease up a bit and countersteer and pray.

Not exactly what I'm seeing at about 2:28 in the video where the problem more or less started - I'm definitely seeing the car running wide starting immediately before the apex cone. This does assume that the cone was reasonably well spotted, which with me never having driven T-hill could have been off a bit and I wouldn't know.

I'd think a tight, late apex would be the safe choice most times, with the first apex of a broken-back turn sequence being an exception.
