To be honest the only real advantage I see the SS has over the GTO is exterior design.... The GTO has a better interior, comparable engine, and much lighter weight resulting in comparable speed. The fact that they were only made for 2-3 years so they will be much rarer and (in theory) retain resale value only sweetens the deal. That and the 10k+- less you will spend on a nice GTO.

I wouldn't mind the 33K+ price for a brand new Camaro SS, but GM would need to straighten out the L99's issues. I wouldn't cry if a '05 or '06 GTO ended up in my garage either.

You're kidding about the resale value, right? I don't care how few of them they made, their immediate resale value is horrible. Maybe 40 years down the road the low production number will play a factor in what you could get for one but, even then, I would not want to make any bets.

Compare the resale value of the GTO to the same model year Mustang GT and you tell me which is higher.

I was looking at Mustang GT's at the local ford dealer when they sold a fully loaded '06 Mustang GT with under 20k miles for under 16K. Talk about depreciation!

What the heck does a Mustang GT have to do with anything? Here we go again with someone trying to turn this into some sort of Ford versus GM thing.

But, since you brought it up, why don't you look at the percentage loss versus the original base price and tell me how the GTO stacks up compared to other cars in its segment.

Case closed.

Besides, if you want to nit pick the potentially higher resale value was (as i pointed out) just one of multiple reasons why the Goat is a good buy.

Potentially. That's the key word. I'd hazard to guess a '03-'04 Mach 1 Mustang will have the same or better potential resale value as a '05-'06 GTO.

A 2005 GTO had an MSRP of $31,290 and the average selling price for a nice example is in the $14-15K range.

Similar examples of 2004 Mach 1's, which had an original MSRP of $29,250, also sell in the $14-15K range despite being one model year older.

If I got a GTO I wouldn't care about resale value. I take good care of my cars and sell them for market value when I want something new. But since Pontiac is a gone brand, I might just hang onto the GTO.

The exterior and interior design are all in the eye of the beholder. The GTO was not that much lighter than the current SS. Maybe 100-150 lbs. tops.

Actually this is very false. We proved earlier in this thread that in order to find one even in the 15k-19k range your looking at 50k+ miles. Every example that we found with 35k or less miles, which would constitute a 'nice example' was in the 21k-27k bracket... hardly 14k-15k. Unless by 'nice example' you just meant an example that would better support your cause.

Yep sounds about right... but that 100-150lbs is fairly comprable to the 26 hp adv. the SS has.

You will not even find a good, low-mileage '04 GTO for 14-15K.
